The case
The owner, quoted at the head of III. Nominal Compatibilism/misc/Smoothies.md
in the LEGO monograph (Mathematics of Meaning, commit d987e2a):
if I put milk in my smoothie, it gets More Good for a while until it gets Less Good, unless there’s more of all the other stuff.
What it can show
That a quantity can help and then hurt at fixed amounts of everything else, and help without limit along a ray where everything scales together. The note’s first model has goodness depend on the milk fraction f = m/(m + S) through a single-peaked Q(f), times a weakly increasing function of volume. It says this exactly: “If you increase both milk and the other stuff so as to hold f near f*, you stay at the top of the hill”. The preference is over a composition, not an amount. That is why “unless there’s more of all the other stuff” is part of the observation and not a hedge.
What it cannot show
What the owner’s peak is, or that it is the same across smoothies. And nothing about discriminability: the note’s second reading, which makes “Less Good” a loss of d′, is the subject of CLAIM-309.
