Standing in the record

Registered on 2026-09-29 at the owner’s request, because the owner’s prior-art novelty map (a private working document on concepts as projectors, the linear representation hypothesis and their neighbours) cites it: row 13: the Shannon limit, the communication-theory twin of the Landauer floor. It is seeded from metadata and published descriptions and has not been read here.

The map names this reference only loosely; this entry is one reasonable reading of it, and the choice is the owner’s to revise.

Identification notes: Map names the limit, not a paper. Proposed Shannon 1949 (capacity of the band-limited AWGN channel). Alternative: Shannon 1948 “A Mathematical Theory of Communication” (BSTJ 27; doi 10.1002/j.1538-7305.1948.tb01338.x), which also states the Gaussian-channel capacity. Existing Shannon-named items are NOT this work: nucleation LIT-042 (Gutknecht et al. 2025, “Shannon invariants”) and LIT-224 (Grünwald & Vitányi 2004); anthology holds no Shannon paper.

A close reading was attempted on 2026-09-29. No legitimate full text could be reached: OpenAlex and Semantic Scholar both mark the 1949 Proc. IRE original (DOI 10.1109/JRPROC.1949.232969) and the Proc. IEEE 86(2), Feb. 1998 classic-paper reprint (DOI 10.1109/JPROC.1998.659497) as closed access, with no open PDF. IEEE Xplore’s stamp page for the 1998 reprint (arnumber 659497) shows “Purchase”, so IEEE has not opened it. A web search found PDFs of the 1998 reprint in a University of Nebraska–Lincoln course-topics folder (math.unl.edu/~bdeng1/Teaching/…) and on an IMJ-PRG course page (webusers.imj-prg.fr/~antoine.chambert-loir/enseignement/…). Both are course-site uploads, not publisher or author postings, and were not used. A CiteSeerX cache of the 1998 classic-paper introduction is a third-party cache and was not used. The converted-text cache holds no copy. It stays Unavailable until a copy is supplied, not on merit.
