Standing in the record

Registered on 2026-09-29 at the owner’s request, because the owner’s prior-art novelty map (a private working document on concepts as projectors, the linear representation hypothesis and their neighbours) cites it: row 5: origin of ‘category mistake’, the reading of non-sequitur as type error / truth-value gap. It is seeded from metadata and published descriptions and has not been read here. Only the year of first publication is known; published: uses 1 January.

Identification notes: URL is the Internet Archive record of the 1949 Hutchinson first edition (verified metadata). A DOI exists only for later editions: Routledge 60th Anniversary Edition 2009, doi 10.4324/9780203875858 (Crossref-verified); U. Chicago 2000/2003 edn with Dennett intro, doi 10.7208/chicago/9780226922652.001.0001. Owner decides whether to prefer the DOI (reissue) over the first-edition URL.

A close reading was attempted on 2026-09-29. No legitimate full text could be reached: Checked first: the private converted-text cache (no file, no manifest entry). The seed URL archive.org/details/conceptofmin00ryle is access-restricted-item=true (‘printdisabled’), i.e. lending only, and does not count. Internet Archive search found about 10 further scans (1949, 1952, 1959, 1963, 1976 and 2000 printings), all ‘printdisabled’ lending items. It also found two unrestricted uploads (‘gilbert-ryle-the-concept-of-mind-routledge’, ‘gilbert-ryle-concept-of-mind’), which are user uploads of the in-copyright Routledge and Hutchinson text, i.e. unauthorised third-party uploads, and were not used. The work is not public domain (Ryle d. 1976). The DOI editions (Routledge 2009, Chicago 2000) are paywalled. No legitimate full text was found. It stays Unavailable until a copy is supplied, not on merit.
