Why it is a question

The owner, 2026-10-23: “how’s the nucleation record on topics like corporate psychopathy? qua treating the corporation as a sociopathic entity.” It was not, before this filing. Every “psychopath” in the record was a person’s disorder or Wolf’s stipulated case (THEORY-147).

The thesis needs three premises, and the record holds unequal parts of them.

  1. The corporation is an agent. French (THEORY-131) and Pettit (THEORY-139) say so; List’s result on aggregation (THEORY-127, Active) and CLAIM-271 say a group’s attitudes can be no member’s. Velasquez (LIT-1429, LIT-1432) denies it: responsibility needs a mind that forms intentions and a body it controls, and a corporation has neither.
  2. Its wrongs are its own, not distributed to its members. Isaacs (LIT-698) on collective guilt, and Floridi (LIT-899) on harm no node intends.
  3. It lacks the moral emotions. Huebner (THEORY-125) allows a group functional, unfelt emotions, and has found no actual case; List (NOTE-340) doubts a group agent is phenomenally conscious. Nothing in the record addresses remorse, guilt or empathy in a corporation.

The third premise is where “psychopathic” gets its force. The record’s own framework bears on it: CLAIM-039, reopened by the owner on 2026-10-23, characterizes affect functionally, after Frijda (THEORY-055), as an appraisal of an event’s pertinence to a concern eliciting action readiness, and so lets affect be assigned to a corporation. The owner: “one of the specific things our framework equips us to do is to assign affect to corporation-like things.” The question is then not whether a corporation can lack remorse but what its remorse would be, and how it would differ from its fear of sanction.

It also has a rival that shares its name. Boddy (LIT-1431) says “corporate psychopaths” are people, individuals with psychopathic traits who rise in corporations. An answer has to say whether a corporation’s harms need its members’ traits at all.

What would count as an answer

A claim that says, of the clinical construct’s features (Hare and Neumann’s four factors, THEORY-892), which can be said of a corporation and in what sense. It should say whether the absence it names is a deficit or a design. It should say what does the work in a corporation that a moral sense does in a person, and tested on a documented case, it should separate the corporation’s contribution from its members’.

What would not answer it

A list of corporate wrongs, however long, since a person can do wrong without psychopathy. Nor would the thesis restated as a metaphor without saying which features transfer, or a verdict on whether corporations are bad.
