Why it is a question
THEORY-897 holds Brown, Price and Dombrovski’s reading of seven computational learning studies they chose without a systematic search, with mixed directions. Whether a systematic synthesis, in diagnosed samples, finds the same pattern is not settled by a narrative review.
What would answer it
THEORY-897’s former promote_when, unchanged:
A systematic search with a meta-analysis or a large preregistered study, in people with fear-based anxiety disorders against controls, showing that what differs is the adjustment of learning rate to the kind of uncertainty (noise against volatility), mainly for aversive outcomes, while overall learning rate, choice consistency and outcome valuation do not differ; and the version of record read and found to report the same synthesis. It is refuted if such a search finds the differences inconsistent in direction across tasks, or finds inflated aversive learning rates or valuation that the uncertainty account does not predict. More single studies chosen by the authors’ knowledge of the literature cannot settle it.
