A11: “What fundamentally distinguishes translations is the interpretive frame through which the original is reconstructed. The important word here is reconstructed.” The translator is “making decisions about what kind of thing the original fundamentally is”. The frame “determines which properties of the original are treated as worth preserving”.
Why it was replaced
It moved the frame from the rendering’s delivery to the translator’s reading of the source, and said so only by emphasis. U7: “reconstructed sure, but importantly also how it’s delivered”. A12 conceded: “your correction identifies something important that my formulation missed. I was treating the frame primarily as an interpretive lens applied to the original”.
