Definition

The argument in its terminal state at a given point in the discussion, as matured, or crystallized, as it has yet become. The owner’s words, on 2026-10-11: the request at U38 (“lay out the whole (crystallized) argument for me: from top to bottom, step by step”) and again at U56 “was asking about the terminal state at that point in the discussion, which was as matured (crystallized) as the argument yet was at that point.”

Crystallization is the maturing itself: the process by which an argument settles into its terminal state. It is crystallization in the proper sense, ordered growth, and the nucleating-argument line holds that it grows on persistent anchors (CLAIM-185).

Two consequences for how the record reads a crystallized argument:

  • A crystallized argument is a readout. Asking for one asks for the current state to be laid out, not for the argument to be formed. The readout can be faithful or lossy. When the argument is held only in an exchange, with nothing addressable, the readout has to be reconstructed from content, and that is where loss can come in (CLAIM-178).
  • Maturing drops things legitimately. A growing crystal rejects what does not fit its lattice. So when an item present earlier is absent from a crystallized argument, that may be dissolution, an item rejected as the argument matured. Or it may be loss, an item simply not carried forward. An exchange cannot tell the two apart. The record can: dissolution is a status (Rejected, Superseded) with a reason, and loss is a claim still Proposed that the work no longer includes.

What it is not

  • Not a quench. It is not a forced or premature solidification of an argument that has not matured. On 2026-10-11 the assistant proposed reading the crystallized arguments of the translation exchange as quenches, and the owner rejected the reading. Crystallization is maturation, and a crystallized argument is its current terminal state.
  • Not the manuscript. A manuscript drafted from a crystallized argument is a further rendering of it (CLAIM-178). The draft C7 changed the thesis that the crystallized argument at U38 had stated.
  • Not final. It is terminal for its point in the discussion. A later crystallized argument can differ, as A203 at U56 differs from A107–A110 at U38.
