Argument forms — The form of inference an ARG makes, and with it the critical questions that inference has to survive (Walton’s argumentation schemes). An ARG answers each question in its body or is objected to (ADR-032).
Source — a reading of a work grounds a claim. Critical questions: does the work say this, read in context? Is it said within the scope the claim needs? Does the claim lean on the reading for more than the reading holds? (ADR-061).

| ARG-022 v2 | The 2016 Contextuality-by-Default paper grounds the criterion the manuscript’s general observational covers need | The manuscript cites Dzhafarov and Kujala 2016 for its contextuality criterion. The 2016 criterion was being replaced by multimaximal couplings as it appeared, and the change matters for observables in more than two contexts, which the manuscript’s general observational covers allow. Proposed, by the owner’s ruling of 2026-10-27: the record holds that the change can bite, not that it does. | Rejected — Rejected on the condition its own body names, “a worked system that is noncontextual under CbD 1.0 and contextual under 2.0”: THEORY-168’s note of 2026-10-29 gives one, binary, with a content in four contexts. |
| ARG-033 v2 | Saussure’s value, as the record reads it, supports transport of relational identity across languages | CLAIM-115’s transport rests on CLAIM-082’s structuralist premise, which draws on Saussure. CLAIM-072 said the premise survives the record’s correction to value. CLAIM-254 objected that value is fixed inside one language state, so what crosses is signification, the aspect the premise demotes, and that value is a fact of the language system while the line’s observables are facts of use. CLAIM-242 replied with a use-level counterpart of value. Open. | Proposed |
| ARG-034 v2 | Saussure’s account of value grounds the premise that significance is fixed by contrasts rather than by correspondence to a referent | The manuscript §2 cites Saussure for a sign’s “significance” depending on contrasts within a system “rather than on intrinsic correspondence to a referent”. Rejected as an inference to CLAIM-082 as titled. Saussure says purely differential only of signifier and signified taken apart, distinguishes value from signification, and brackets the referent: the fix is to say value rather than significance and drop the referent contrast. | Rejected |
| ARG-035 | Griffiths and Kalish’s convergence theorem and Kirby, Cornish and Smith’s chains show that serial transmission is filtered by the transmitters’ inductive biases | The manuscript’s §8 cites Griffiths and Kalish and Kirby, Cornish and Smith together as showing that transmission is filtered by inductive biases. They show different things. Kirby et al. measured no prior, and their structure appeared only under the experimenter’s homonym filter; Griffiths and Kalish’s convergence to the prior holds only for sampling learners. Proposed: the stable endpoint far from the ancestor survives for sampling learners, and whether people learn that way is QUESTION-137. | Proposed |
| ARG-047 | Bencherki, Brummans and Vézy’s “agency is a matter of perspective” supports the claim that perspectival, agential and institutional boundaries need not coincide | The first filing of LIT-1902 (NOTE-1484, “Bearing on the record”) read the paper’s perspectivism as “a version of” CLAIM-418. It is not. The paper’s “perspective” (p. 1357) is the analyst’s choice of where to cut a chain of agencies, Barad’s agential cut. CLAIM-418’s is an organizational perspective, TERM-072 sense 1, which an agent may have, share or act through. The sentence bears on CLAIM-405, which says whether an individuation verdict is relative to a criterion, and not on CLAIM-418. Rejected. Where these readings do bear on CLAIM-418 is Bencherki 2017’s Table 1 (LIT-1901, p. 787), which is another source. | Rejected |
| ARG-048 | Tsoukas and Chia’s radial extension and institutionalization show how the exercise of a shared perspective can transform it with no agent governing the change, the agents and the institution kept distinct | From the connections pass of 2026-10-31 (CLAIM-418’s note of that date). Tsoukas and Chia (LIT-1913) give a mechanism for CLAIM-418’s third part: applying an institutionalized category to a nonprototypical case extends and transforms it, and whether the extension becomes the organization’s depends on institutionalization, which can fail. Proposed: the readings argue and illustrate with others’ ethnographies, and are Proposed themselves. A second line for an Active claim, not its ground. | Proposed |
| ARG-052 | Van Lange and Bergmann’s model of intergroup cooperation does not establish that cooperation within groups and the coexistence of groups are distinct targets that can trade off: it shows that the processes building in-group cooperation can fuel conflict between groups, and says nothing on whether groups persist, go extinct or are owed impartial concern | CLAIM-547 was filed citing Van Lange and Bergmann (2026) as the evidence the synthesis offers for its human case, before the review was read. Read in NOTE-1537, the review carries one link in the claim and not the claim. Rejected as an inference to the claim as titled. The link it does carry is recorded as corroboration (THEORY-1352 corroborates CLAIM-547), and the review is no longer among the claim’s grounds. | Rejected |
