Context
The 2026-09-26 sweep of the papers-feed tracker for philosophy seeded dossiers for 119 works. The dossiers were limited to the closed topic list, and two kinds of work did not fit it:
- Epistemology. Knowledge is not always more valuable than mere true
belief had no topic at all; its dossier said
none — wants: epistemology. Others were tagged with the nearest wrong word, and their dossiers said so:- Pettigrew’s What is purely epistemic normativity, and why? was tagged
ethics, because the normativity is epistemic, not moral. - The epistemic-injustice paper and Keeley’s two conspiracy-theory papers had approximate tags.
- Pettigrew’s The epistemology of accurate credences, Douglas on inductive
risk, Reiss’s pragmatist theory of evidence, and the work on evidence-based
medicine and explanatory power sat under
philosophy-of-science. That covers what science says about the world, not what it is to know or to have evidence.
- Pettigrew’s What is purely epistemic normativity, and why? was tagged
- Logic. Turner’s Ultrafilters as Propositional Theories is a logic
tutorial, and its dossier said
none — wants: logic. Marabini on Brandom’s inferentialism is about meaning as inferential role.
The record’s rule is that a missing word is added, not approximated.
Decision
Add epistemology and logic to topics, each with a label and a blurb, and
to the philosophy tag group (ADR-003, ADR-004).
The group stays a label (require: any).
Alternatives
- Keep
philosophy-of-sciencefor the evidence papers. That is the nearest wrong tag. The rule this record adopted is meant to prevent exactly that. - Leave
logicout, and drop or approximate the one or two works that want it. A word used by one work is still a word the record needs to file that work honestly. Nothing about the vocabulary is finished. - Add
philosophy-of-mindas well. Three works on mental causation and physicalism (Pernu twice, and Poltorak) reached for it. They are honestly described bymetaphysics, withagencyorphilosophy-of-science, and the group already holdsconsciousnessandcognition. Not added, but open to revisit if a work cannot be placed without it.
Consequences
The works from the sweep are filed with these words where they apply:
epistemology on fourteen and logic on two. The already-held works were not
retagged in this change.
