The case
Someone stores a message for a reader they anticipate. It might be a note to a colleague, an instruction for whoever restores a backup, a letter filed and never sent, or a reminder to their own later self. The writer chooses words for that reader’s expected common ground. The store survives and nobody ever reads it.
Held fixed against CASE-049: nothing receives the event. Varied: the event was produced for a receiver.
What it can show
The owner’s claim, CLAIM-160, that the write fixes the intended meaning even with no read. Two sub-cases are worth keeping apart:
- The reader is someone else. This is the line’s usual setting.
- The reader is the writer’s future self. Otto’s notebook (LIT-097) is this sub-case. It is the diachronic route to an extended self, which CLAIM-172 names and does not cover: a store is coupled to its user across time by a write and a read, not by entrainment.
As a stipulated case it shows only what follows from its description. The claim that intention is fixed at the write is the claim’s to defend, not the case’s.
