Not studied as a text. The record cites one couplet and what the reference page says of the song’s subject: “the negative side of the fame that he had gained”, being “harassed by fans”, and “the pressure put on him to top his earlier work”.

Why this is here

The owner’s U39 of the exchange “Graph Learning Applications” asked for an examination of the phrase “I am whatever you say I am”. A39 identified the song and read the line three ways, and CLAIM-415 keeps the third: “A person can be shaped by a judgment they reject, because opposition to the judgment becomes an organizing feature of their activity.”

The couplet’s second line matters to that reading and the exchange did not use it. “If I wasn’t then why would I say I am” turns the attribution into a self-assertion: the speaker claims the label as his own. The line is borrowed from Eric B. & Rakim’s “As the Rhyme Goes On” (1987), a boast. So the couplet holds both of TERM-075’s movements at once: an identity held by others, and its appropriation by the person it is held of.
