Key takeaways
From the reading, NOTE-843.
- The dictionary. Entity types and relation types form a schema graph Q. A knowledge sheaf on Q gives each relation two linear maps, head and tail, into a comparison space. Pulled back to the knowledge graph, every edge of one relation shares its maps, and entity embeddings are a 0-cochain.
- Scores are coboundaries. Structured Embedding’s score is ‖F_h x_h − F_t x_t‖², and its sum over the graph is the sheaf Laplacian form xᵀLx. A relation vector gives TransR, identity maps TransE, a diagonal complex map RotatE. Bilinear models (RESCAL, ComplEx, HolE, NTN, QuatE) are not covered.
- Consistency is free; contrast is the content. The zero embedding is a section, “consistent, but useless”. Negative subgraphs must fail to be sections, relaxed to a margin γ that the margin ranking loss enforces exactly. Such an embedding ranks pairs, but cannot classify a single triple.
- Queries by harmonic extension. Fix the known entities on a query template and minimize the Laplacian energy over the rest. The cost is a Schur complement, zero exactly when the fixed values extend to a section. No training on complex queries is needed.
- Results are preliminary. No tuning, one entity type. Harmonic extension beats summing TransE vectors on ip and pi queries (NELL-995 easy ip MRR 0.296 against 0.104), not on intersections, and the models sit well below BetaE and Query2Box.
Standing in the record
Filed on 2026-09-26 at the owner’s request, from a list they grouped under the heading Knowledge Graphs, with a skim (NOTE-211). Read in full on 2026-10-14 in NOTE-843, which supersedes the skim. The account filed from it is THEORY-299: coboundary-type embeddings are sheaf cochains, and because a sheaf of vector spaces always has the zero section, their content is a contrastive margin. That is also what keeps the paper apart from the record’s sheaf-theoretic contextuality line (LIT-016, THEORY-012), where the phenomenon is that no global section exists. The paper cites no contextuality work, and it belongs to the cellular-sheaf lineage that NOTE-016 already separated from Abramsky and Brandenburger.
Tagged anthology-candidate (ADR-005): its experiments and the modelling
choices they suggest are machine-learning practice. It is kept here by
the owner’s decision of 2026-09-26 that new work stays in nucleation
until a transfer is judged appropriate (ADR-010). The anthology was not
checked for this paper in the reading.
