The claim

U6 put the question: “an LLM as a distribution over ‘perspectives’ (qua nucleation)”. The Persona Selection Model (LIT-1952) reads a language model as a distribution over personas: pretraining learns one, post-training narrows it to the Assistant’s, and context conditions it further. The record already holds the readings closest to this: Shanahan’s superposition of characters (LIT-460, NOTE-370), identity as “the shifting distribution of roles” (LIT-465, NOTE-382), and in-context learning as implicit Bayesian inference over a latent concept (LIT-797, THEORY-614).

The owner’s U8 asked for the contrast between A7’s hypotheses to be read as Bayesian structure. H1 is a flat model and H2 a hierarchical or causal one. The claim states what the contrast has to be for the record’s notion of perspective:

  • Hierarchy in the prior is not the difference. A mixture of personas, z ~ Cat(π), y ~ p(y | z), is already a two-level model. LDA (LIT-1948) is “a three-level hierarchical Bayesian model” in its authors’ words, and it is drawn in plate notation. So a “flat plate model” cannot be the contrast with a hierarchical one (A9: “organizationally flat, not necessarily probabilistically flat”).
  • Exchangeability is. In a mixture or an admixture the components are exchangeable given their weights. In LDA the topic assignments are conditionally independent given a document’s proportions. No component makes another available, gives it precedence or vetoes it. TERM-074’s sense 1, organization as the relations that settle which contributions count, is then absent, however many levels sit above the weights.
  • Dependence among components is a further step, and not yet organization. A correlated topic model or a correlated latent-feature model (THEORY-1012) has statistical dependence among components without direction. Pachinko allocation has a DAG over topics. Each is A8’s H2a, a hierarchical statistical model, not H2b, a causal or organizational one.
  • Only intervention separates them (CLAIM-414, CLAIM-135). A fitted factorization fixes conditional independences, not causal direction, and latent hierarchies are often not identified. Matched behaviour can hide different governance (TERM-067), so the test is a response to interventions on which interpretations govern the output.

The claim applies CLAIM-454, that a latent feature or mode is at most a constituent of a perspective, to a persona distribution. This is its seventh appearance in the record.

What it does not say

  • That personas are not perspectives. A persona under the Persona Selection Model is a character in TERM-072’s reading, a relation among realizations. Whether any realization of it is a sense-1 perspective is open (TERM-072’s note of 2026-11-02), and LIT-1347’s finding that post-training installs the Assistant’s standpoint into the workspace (NOTE-1069, graded weak to moderate) is the nearest evidence.
  • That A8’s H2 factorization shows hierarchy. As A8 wrote it, p(S, M, I, Y | c) = p(S | c) p(M | S, c) p(I | M, S, c) p(Y | I, M, S, c), it is the chain rule, which every joint distribution satisfies. Hierarchical structure lives in the missing arrows. A8’s “evidence arriving at a lower level can update beliefs about higher-level assumptions” is true of H1 too.
  • Whose organization it would be. A will-organization is agent-indexed (TERM-023). A dependency found in a model could be the simulated Assistant’s, the network’s or the deployed system’s (CLAIM-418, THEORY-490). QUESTION-370 asks this.
  • That a Bayesian update among components is endorsement. The posterior over LDA’s proportions, or the Persona Selection Model’s reading of post-training as Bayesian updating, is the analyst’s or the optimizer’s inference, not a process among the components (TERM-053, CLAIM-367).

Note of 2026-11-03: the readings

The Persona Selection Model’s “router” (its Appendix B, persona swapping) is this claim’s component that conditions which others are consequential, named by the model’s authors as a possible agency outside the persona distribution (NOTE-1512). Persona Vectors’ cross-trait entanglement is undirected statistical dependence, H2a, not organization (NOTE-1524). The quotations from LDA check (NOTE-1519).
