CLAIM-546: Negative frequency dependence that keeps two types in coexistence does not make their interaction cooperative: in Hawk–Dove with cost C above value V each type increases when rare and they coexist at the interior equilibrium of V/C Hawks, with Hawks still taking the whole resource from Doves, and on the Black Queen account producers of a leaked good and the cells that use it without paying coexist at a frequency set by the community's need; so whether types persist together and whether they cooperate are separate questions, and a coexistence criterion answers only the first
Nov 04, 2026
CLAIM-547: Cooperation within groups and the coexistence of groups are distinct targets that can trade off: in the group-selection rule of Nowak's five, b/c > 1 + n/m, cooperation spreads because a group that grows to size n splits and another group is driven extinct, so the mechanism that stabilizes cooperation inside groups works by removing groups; cooperation local to a group, the persistence of several groups whose interests are opposed, and concern for those outside one's group are three achievements, and none of them secures the next

CLAIM-532: Self-formation, in the sense the record holds (the transformation dimension of a will-organization), is the production by an agent's own activity on a discrepancy it cannot yet resolve of a maintained capacity, a new distinction it can make legible or a new channel by which it can act, that outlasts the discrepancy and serves a class of later ones; it is told apart from learning an action by transfer to discrepancies of the same class after the inducing conditions are gone, and from a capacity installed or upheld from outside by interventions on the processes that produce and maintain it
Nov 03, 2026
CLAIM-534: A plural will's motivational integration, a dimension of freedom of will the record names and leaves unanalysed, is the extent to which the demands it maintains are jointly met, within tolerances it can recognize, across the contexts where they interact, and kept so under its own dynamics; it is neither agreement among the demands nor the dominance of one, and its parts come apart: realizability (the tolerance frontier), realization (governance frustration), maintenance (viability) and the allocation of the tolerance each demand gives up
Nov 03, 2026
CLAIM-535: An organization that acts on what it observes has a policy acceptable in every circumstance exactly when, for each observation, the circumstances it cannot tell apart share an acceptable action; so every circumstance having an acceptable action does not give a policy, a finer observation never removes one, and where acceptable actions overlap the coarsest observations that suffice are several and incomparable, so which distinctions must be made legible depends on which acceptable action the organization commits to

CLAIM-537: In tolerance-bounded compatibility on a graph with disturbed offsets, |Dx − a₀ − w| ≤ δ for |w_e| ≤ η_e, a compatible configuration exists for every disturbance exactly when |cᵀa₀| + Σ η_e|c_e| ≤ Σ δ_e|c_e| on every cycle, and one configuration serves every disturbance exactly when η ≤ δ and |cᵀa₀| ≤ Σ(δ_e − η_e)|c_e|; an agent that chooses its configuration from what it observes needs the second condition within each class of disturbances it cannot tell apart, so whether a compatible state can be selected lies between the two and depends on what the agent can read

CLAIM-538: On a finite graph of contexts whose overlaps carry preferred real offsets a and tolerances δ_e ≥ 0, an assignment within every tolerance, |Dx − a| ≤ δ, exists exactly when no cycle's holonomy exceeds the sum of its tolerances; with every δ_e > 0 the least uniform enlargement of the tolerances that admits one is the largest ratio, over simple cycles, of holonomy to summed tolerance, so the obstruction is certified by a cycle; the feasible allocations of tolerance depend on the offsets only through their class in H¹, so local adjustment can move a mismatch among the overlaps of a cycle and never remove it; and an evaluation that omits one overlap of every witnessing cycle reports a compatibility that does not hold

CLAIM-539: Jennings's attention as the source of a free will has Frankfurt's two-level architecture with its upper level changed from an attitude to a process: the whole collection of an agent's interests, prioritizing, settles which first-order interest becomes effective, as a second-order volition does for Frankfurt, but by metacontrol and not by endorsement; so it inherits unchanged the objection that a manipulated organization can meet the condition, and what it adds to Frankfurt is that the process forms new interests and is a contextually emergent cause

Nov 03, 2026
CLAIM-544: If a willed agent is the jurisdiction of its will-organization, then governing one's own governability is in part governing one's own individuation, in the constitutive sense of individuation at that level: a revision of the will-organization that changes which regimes it governs changes which willed agent there is, so a self-forming revision can be a re-individuation and not only a change in an agent's states, and whether the revised jurisdiction continues the earlier agent is a question of continuation, not of resemblance
Nov 02, 2026
CLAIM-533: The sensitivity that formal chaos gives a will's dynamics is not control over them: in Kane's self-forming actions, chaotic amplification keeps the outcome open, but it magnifies the agent's efforts, uncontrolled fluctuations and outside inputs alike, so what would make the outcome the agent's is how its own control couples to the amplifying directions, relative to noise and to other parties' inputs and with what feedback, which sensitivity does not supply; and under weak noise what amplification touches lasts only where it reaches the slow modes
Nov 02, 2026
CLAIM-536: A categorical model of perspectives and an LDA-style model differ in where the mixture lives: the first draws every act's perspective from one fixed categorical distribution, the second gives each episode its own mixture, drawn from a Dirichlet, and draws each act from it; the Dirichlet is a distribution over mixtures, not the perspectives themselves, and with symmetric concentration a over K perspectives two acts in one episode share a perspective with probability (a + 1)/(Ka + 1) against 1/K across episodes, so the concentration runs from one perspective per episode, as in persona selection (a → 0), to a fresh independent draw for every act (a → ∞)
- probabilistic-modeling
- mathematics
Nov 02, 2026
CLAIM-540: The persistence a Dirichlet–categorical hierarchy gives a run of selections is an observer's learning about a fixed mixture, not a change in what selects: under a uniform prior an observed first choice raises the predicted chance of repeating it from 1/2 to 2/3, while the same choice forced leaves it at 1/2, so the hierarchy's reinforcement is not evidence of self-formation or of a maintained will-organization, which need the mixture itself to change under the choice

CLAIM-541: Wu-wei is better read as control placed and timed where a system's own dynamics do most of the work than as the absence of control: Ott–Grebogi–Yorke control of chaos is a formal instance, in which small perturbations timed by the system's own wandering hold it on an unstable orbit, and the control, though small, continues for as long as the orbit is held; so reported effortlessness has at least three distinct sources, no conflict to override, conflict settled cheaply by learned accommodation, and conflict met as it arises by small well-timed feedback, which may feel alike and differ in mechanism
Nov 02, 2026
CLAIM-542: Sensitivity does not fix the allocation or the authorship of control: linearized, every input reaches the final state through the same transition operator, ∂x_T/∂w_t = Φ(T, t)B_w(t), so systems with the same Lyapunov spectrum can differ arbitrarily in what an agent's own channel, an outside party's channel and noise each reach and at what least energy; and along one unstable direction a larger exponent λ lowers the least effort to reach a displacement, since W_T = b²(e^{2λT} − 1)/2λ grows with λ, while a constant open-loop input against white noise entering the same direction has terminal signal-to-noise ratio tending to (bu/σ)√(2/λ), which falls as λ grows, so only feedback that observes the state turns cheaper control into reliable direction
Nov 02, 2026
CLAIM-543: What separates a language model's distribution over personas from a distribution over organizational perspectives is not whether the latent model is hierarchical, since a mixture or an LDA-style admixture already is, but whether some latent components condition which others are available or consequential: a model whose components are exchangeable given their weights is organizationally flat however many levels its prior has, and dependencies among components count as organization (organization as relational arrangement) only where interventions, not fit, support them
Nov 02, 2026
CLAIM-545: Freedom of will, in the operational sense, is an agent's governance of its own governability: the extent to which its own organization makes the relevant distinctions legible, gives the demands they raise practical efficacy, directs its transitions, and revises the relations that govern those three, including under another's interference; openness, sensitivity and controllability of outcomes each fall short of it, and domination is another's capacity to govern those same relations, used or not
Nov 01, 2026
CLAIM-528: That a mechanism realizes a capacity can mean that the capacity is produced through it over time or that the capacity consists in it at a time, and interventions show only the first: a pathway whose disabling changes the capacity after a delay is a cause, can be intervened on surgically, and can be located relative to a declared boundary, whereas every intervention on a capacity that consists in its parts also changes some part along another path, so that relation is underdetermined by intervention data and is inferred by abduction or from simultaneity and settled parthood; and which of the two a given dependence is depends on the time resolution at which a description treats the parts' response as instantaneous
Nov 01, 2026
CLAIM-529: An organization can be individuated without presupposing it as a declared candidate whose verdict can come out false: criteria stated on the candidate's interactions (whether benefit can be booked per member, which interactions the others depend on, what removing an interaction type does, whether its order survives release from an outside scaffold) apply to a grouping not yet assumed to be a unit, while criteria stated as members' attitudes toward the group (a goal about it, belonging, identity) make it partly constituted by being taken as one, a different individuation, unavailable where members have no such attitudes
Nov 01, 2026
CLAIM-530: Where maintenance is realized is a question of constitutive relevance only through its parthood condition: an internal producer and an outside controller supplying the same production law as state feedback meet mutual manipulability's two manipulability conditions identically, since disabling or stimulating either changes the maintained capacities and intervening on the capacities changes the activity of either, so what puts one inside and the other outside is parthood, a boundary the experiments presuppose and do not find
Nov 01, 2026
CLAIM-531: Generative entrenchment does not by itself give organizational closure: an entrenched core, which later interactions depend on so that perturbing it is catastrophic and perturbing them tolerable, can sit at the root of an acyclic dependency order, and where interactions turn over such an order persists only while something outside supplies its core; an organization that is both entrenched and closed has a core containing a cycle of mutual maintenance, each interaction on which is itself core unless its share of the maintenance is redundant

CLAIM-512: The diachronic thesis faces two objections: a dilemma, that read narrowly it fails for judgments not about any organization's continuation, such as that suffering is bad, and read broadly every judgment is met vacuously as a preference between continuations unless the organizational description adds causal specificity, transfer or counterfactual discrimination; and a distinction, that evaluating a history is not prescribing its continuation, so a judgment can be determinate with no future transformation fixed

CLAIM-513: Across a family of goals, a world model is not an optional explanation of competent behaviour: in a fully observed, finite, communicating, stationary environment, a goal-conditioned policy within a factor 1 − δ of optimal on every composite goal of depth n fixes every transition probability to within √(2P(1 − P)/((n − 1)(1 − δ))), so observers reading the same policy must ascribe the same world model; what it leaves open is whether a predictive component is realized inside the agent, since a lookup table over histories and goals has the same policy
Oct 31, 2026
CLAIM-514: World-modeling is a family of resource-bounded capabilities for producing and using predictions about an environment's possibilities and consequences, each relative to a declared family of questions; a world model in the representational sense is one possible realization of them, competent behaviour can determine environmental structure without identifying any internal mechanism, and producing, maintaining and revising world-modeling capabilities are further achievements, not prerequisites of agency in general
Oct 31, 2026
CLAIM-515: Whether an organization has a cognitive property is four questions, not one: what information about the property can be recovered from its behaviour, what capabilities it can actually exercise, what mechanisms realize them, and whether it can maintain or transform those mechanisms; the four can come apart, and none should be silently substituted for another
Oct 31, 2026
CLAIM-516: Where every constraint capacity turns over at a positive rate and is produced only by others, with no basal production and production vanishing as its producers do, capacities whose production graph is acyclic all decay to zero: a capacity that persists needs a productive cycle among its ancestors, and removing a feedback edge set extinguishes every capacity; a cycle is necessary and not sufficient, and a one-member cycle is not closure
Oct 31, 2026
CLAIM-517: A successor regulator keeps a viable set positively invariant if, at every boundary context, its response distribution is within γ/L in total variation of a regulator that certifies inward margin γ, the dynamics being L-Lipschitz in that distribution; an average distillation loss certifies this only through coverage of the boundary contexts, so fidelity measured in ordinary operation certifies nothing about viability
Oct 31, 2026
CLAIM-518: Normative judgments about an organization's continuity, reform or obligations can depend on diachronic relations that descriptions of present states or terminal outcomes do not show, so specifying the relevant relations and histories can be necessary to apply them adequately; which continuations ought to follow is a further normative question, not a prerequisite of every normative judgment

Oct 31, 2026
CLAIM-519: Competent behaviour does not establish an internal world model: over a fixed interface and a finite horizon, an agent with no model, whose actions are looked up from the history so far, reproduces the interaction distribution of an agent that has one exactly; a policy can identify predictive structure without any particular internal component realizing it, so compression and generalization support comparing candidate architectures, and establishing an internal mechanism needs evidence that discriminates candidate implementations, such as targeted interventions
Oct 31, 2026
CLAIM-520: The value of keeping a corrective capacity is conditional on objectives, uncertainty and cost: a free, optional audit cannot lower a single time-consistent decision-maker's expected performance, but an audit that costs C to maintain and bears on k decisions with error rate ε is worth k(0.25 − 0.5ε) − C in the exchange's model, negative when C is large or k small, and where no hypothesis fits the world, correction gains no reward and improves only calibration

CLAIM-521: An organization's present coupling strength need not reveal the stability of the process maintaining it: in a constructed system whose maintained connector and capacities set a three-unit coupling, the recovery rate of the maintenance goes to zero at its saddle-node while the coupling's spectral gap there stays near 0.989
- complex-systems
- individuation
Oct 31, 2026
CLAIM-522: Recovery under interventions on state cannot show where maintenance is realized: an outside controller that measures the constraint capacities and supplies the internal production law as state feedback yields the same trajectory under every perturbation of state, damage and recovery included, even with every capacity observed exactly; only interventions on the production mechanisms, relative to a declared boundary, separate the two
Oct 31, 2026
CLAIM-523: For a normatively relevant discrepancy to change what an organization does, three distinct achievements are needed and any can fail while the others hold: legibility, by which the discrepancy becomes recognizable; volitional efficacy, by which a corresponding demand can move action; and correctability, by which a fitting revision can be carried out within deadline and resources; none establishes that the demand or the revision is justified, and whether the norm-satisfying histories the agent can still realize are empty depends partly on what its earlier actions destroyed
Oct 31, 2026
CLAIM-524: Whether functionally equivalent realizations are connected depends on which paths are admissible: for f = u₁v₁ + u₂v₂ with nonnegative weights, (1, 1, 0, 0) and (0, 0, 1, 1) are joined by a curve along which f stays 1 though the straight line between them falls to ½, and under any resource budget below √2 times the endpoints' cost no path with f = 1 joins them

CLAIM-525: Information in the sense the Simondonian readings give it, a disparity whose resolution reorders the system that takes it up, is in the line's terms a change in the interpreter or in the questions receivers can decide, not evidence about a fixed situation, so Blackwell's order leaves it out by construction and the two accounts are not rivals
- information-theory
- individuation
Oct 31, 2026
CLAIM-526: Describing persons and organizations as coexisting levels of one process removes the question of how already-constituted agents add up to a collective, but not the question of levels: whether a collective variable has dynamics of its own, closed against the activity that realizes it, can be decided on a process description that presupposes no agents, is sometimes decided no, and a closed collective variable can be an aggregate that coexists with its realization while keeping none of its members' distinctions
Oct 31, 2026
CLAIM-527: Viable reach, valence and emotion are three quantities in an organization, not one: an emotion is a claim to precedence, system valence is movement along the ordering that wins the negotiation, and a change in what the organization can viably reach is neither, so an organization can run ahead along its prevailing ordering while its viable reach contracts

CLAIM-500: The governance-induced kind of frustration is not idle: some failures of an organization's actual updates to meet demands that an admissible update would meet are explained by how influence is allocated, and not by step size, curvature, noise, conditioning or a fixed weighting rule

CLAIM-501: Gutt's interpretive resemblance also predicts that judged pragmatic observables beat text similarity, so the central theses' defeat conditions cannot tell the thesis from a relevance-theoretic account either
Oct 30, 2026
CLAIM-502: Multi-hop delegation can keep an operator's authority exactly independent of its own endorsements: under leave-one-out damped delegation, which counts the authority reaching each operator only along paths that have not already passed through it, an operator's endorsements raise the authority of every operator the endorsed one reaches and leave its own unchanged

CLAIM-503: Over finitely many states and finite outcome sets, one experiment is ε-deficient relative to another in every decision problem with losses in [0, 1] exactly when a single Markov kernel brings it within ε in total variation at every state, so the deficiency computed as a linear programme is the least such ε

CLAIM-506: The split of the last eukaryotic common ancestor's central carbon metabolism, archaeal enzymes in the cytosol and alphaproteobacterial ones in the mitochondrion, does not single out syntrophy: a host that kept its own archaeal glycolysis and took up a bacterium with a TCA cycle leaves it whether the partnership began in syntrophy or by engulfment by an already complex host, and what the split counts against is a host whose carbon metabolism was replaced by the symbiont's

CLAIM-507: On WMT22 News MQM, xCOMET's error spans are more coherent with its own regression scores than either is with expert judgement: the agreement between its heads is coherence between two outputs of one model, and adds little to what the spans' own agreement with experts shows

Oct 30, 2026
CLAIM-508: Gene ancestries alone cannot tell a symbiotic partner from a source of transferred genes: a partner whose genes were mostly lost, replaced or spread thin would leave the diffuse trace that Tobiasson and colleagues read as piecemeal transfer, and Bernabeu and colleagues concede that their donor signals say nothing of the kind of interaction
- endosymbiosis
- natural-sciences
Oct 30, 2026
CLAIM-509: Stem lengths alone do not establish an order of acquisition in eukaryogenesis, neither Pittis and Gabaldón's late mitochondrion nor Bernabeu and colleagues' transfer waves: normalized stem length measures time only if rates before and after LECA are proportional, it shortens as closer relatives are sampled, the alphaproteobacterial separation from other bacteria rests on P = 0.044, and on Tobiasson and colleagues' data it does not behave as a clock

Oct 29, 2026
CLAIM-491: No action is selfless in the sense of aiming at a good that is no self's: what is called selflessness, collectivist or altruistic, is concern for the good of a self extended to include others or a group, so collectivism is self-interest on a larger self-identity
Oct 29, 2026
CLAIM-492: If the self is defined to include whatever an agent cares about, the claim that all motivation serves the self is true by definition and rules nothing out; the thesis has content only with a criterion of the self's extent that can come apart from what the agent cares about

CLAIM-495: For an O(d)-valued connection on a connected graph, the assignments that meet every edge relation xᵢ = Tᵢⱼxⱼ form a space isomorphic to the vectors at one vertex fixed by every holonomy based there, which is the kernel of the connection Laplacian; for d = 1, and for U(1) phases, that space is all or nothing, but for d > 1 a connection whose loops are not trivial can still keep a subspace on which every loop is, so compatibility among local frames can be partial and graded by direction; and edge maps that do not commute can compose to a flat loop, so non-commutativity is not holonomy

CLAIM-496: Agreement between routes of translation is a measure of coherence, not of fidelity, and the two are independent: a rendering that sends every source utterance to one output makes direct and relay transport agree exactly while a receiver who could tell a promise from a prediction with no error is left at chance, and two routes that keep the act and differ in register disagree completely while losing nothing the act-identification task needs

Oct 27, 2026
CLAIM-456: Maintaining a governing rule internally, by the organization's own reciprocal production, can be more fragile than having it reset from outside: arrangements identical in ordinary operation can differ in which losses are repairable, and the self-produced rule can be lost to a double loss or an interruption of the work that produces it which outside reset survives

CLAIM-462: An arrangement of institutions can keep, or increase, its capacity for effective action while its capacity to be effectively corrected by others degrades, because the two are maintained by different relations, so the first is no evidence of the second
Oct 27, 2026
CLAIM-463: Restoring the conditions under which a capacity was lost need not restore the capacity: where the activity that maintains it reinforces itself, the same conditions can sustain both the capacity and its absence, so a capacity lost past a threshold returns only under conditions better than those it was lost under, or by rebuilding the activity directly, and restoring it can cost more than preserving it would have
Oct 27, 2026
CLAIM-464: An intervention can change what it would take to correct it: by altering the distribution of control, access, resources or enforcement before it is reviewed, it can make a specified corrective outcome costlier or unreachable while the standards that govern that outcome stay the same
Oct 27, 2026
CLAIM-465: An organization's flexibility among regimes depends on the conditions under which a regime gives up authority as well as those under which it takes it, so escalation without a release condition leaves authority with a regime after the demand that justified it has passed
Oct 27, 2026
CLAIM-466: Lock-in from selectively admitted evidence and lock-in from self-scoring need different remedies: weighting admitted evidence by known, positive admission probabilities undoes the first and leaves the second, so correcting for how evidence was selected is not correcting how it is scored
Oct 27, 2026
CLAIM-467: Under full-information, independent audits, a learned allocation of influence among specialists is no better than a contextual router trained on the same audits, which is a mixture of experts whose experts earn responsibility by fitting better; whatever governance adds over routing has to be shown where evaluation fails, and the record has not yet found such a regime
Oct 27, 2026
CLAIM-468: Valence intensity need not be the strength of the prevailing ordering's potential: in Hesp et al.'s model negative valence is a weakening of the preference ordering's precision with a fall back to habit, and positive affect is reported to lower a goal's priority, so for either sign stronger valence can go with a weaker hold of the ordering

CLAIM-470: Inquiry is a form of specification: a question fixes which differences would count as an answer, an inquiry adds the operations that make those differences accessible, and what it finds can stabilize into a specification that constrains later inquiry; so inquiry stands to its findings as a specification to its realizations, with one difference, that an inquiry can revise what an answer could be

Oct 27, 2026
CLAIM-474: From interconnection to individuation, the relationships are distinct achievements that form a partial order, not a nested sequence: none implies the next, and a later one need not require every earlier one. Interconnection fixes what joint behaviour is possible, compatibility which local descriptions admit a coherent whole, dynamics which organizations persist, individuation which have sufficiently robust identity and boundaries, organizational autonomy which help maintain their own constitutive constraints, and inquiry which can measure and revise their own models and apparatuses under resource bounds, inquiry and reconstruction occurring without autonomy. The research program is to find the conditions for each, and their dependencies, apart from the order in which an inquiry meets them
Oct 27, 2026
CLAIM-475: Specifying is itself a resource-bounded realization: formulating a question takes time, concepts and computation as realizing a configuration takes energy and matter, so the questions an agent can ask are a product of what it has already realized; a stabilized specification is past inquiry stored so that later questions become cheaper to ask, and it can make other questions harder
Oct 27, 2026
CLAIM-476: Beyond what it does operationally, luria is an apparatus in Barad's constitutive sense for the objects of a record, and only for them: the record's objects are constituted, and not only made referable and governable, by the distinctions its grammar enacts, so that the same authored material is a different set of objects under a revised apparatus, and the record's own inquiry reconstitutes the apparatus that constitutes them
Oct 27, 2026
CLAIM-477: Relata stand to relations as realizations stand to specifications: what an entity is, is partly fixed by the constraints on the configurations of entities and relations it can enter, and those constraints are themselves realized and maintained by something, so neither relata nor relations, nor specifications nor realizations, are prior without qualification
Oct 27, 2026
CLAIM-478: Scale separation helps make structure and not only marks it: where some degrees of freedom settle fast relative to others, the relation they settle into is a constraint on the system over the window between the two time scales, so what is a realization at one scale works as a constraint at another; and organization can make new separations in turn, as when modes slow near an instability and become order parameters, so time-scale hierarchies and constraints can produce one another
Oct 27, 2026
CLAIM-479: In the record a typed relation is more constrained than either of its relata: a claim's content is open prose, while rests_on fixes the scheme at both ends, has supports written as its converse and says what retiring its target leaves, and none of that moves when either claim's content does; so a relation's rigidity is a fact about the grammar, not evidence that the dependency it records is sound
Oct 27, 2026
CLAIM-480: Composing interactions can turn an interior into a constraint, and sometimes into a constraint of a new kind: in the chain E = ½k₁(x₁ − x₂)² + ½k₂(x₂ − x₃)², with x₂ internal and equilibrated, the boundary sees E_eff = ½·k₁k₂/(k₁ + k₂)·(x₁ − x₃)², a coupling between x₁ and x₃ that neither part has; if the interior relaxes slowly, eliminating it leaves a history-dependent constraint, a memory kernel, so interconnection fixes an effective constraint on the boundary's trajectories and separation of time scales decides only whether that constraint is approximately memoryless; and for cellular sheaves the reduced constraint can relate three boundary values where every relation among the parts is pairwise
Oct 27, 2026
CLAIM-481: Coupling does not by itself separate time scales: two identical undamped oscillators coupled with stiffness k have normal modes at ω₀ and √(ω₀² + 2k), nearly equal when k ≪ ω₀², and neither decays; separation comes where the coupling dissipates relative differences faster than collective ones, as in ẋ = −ax − k(x − y), ẏ = −ay − k(y − x), whose collective and relative modes relax at rates a and a + 2k, and in a Laplacian flow ẋ = −κLx, where the spectrum of L sets the rates

CLAIM-454: A latent feature or mode recovered from an organization's members' activity is at most a constituent of an organizational perspective, not the perspective: a feature allocation says which members take part in which modes, and whether those modes are organized into one perspective depends on the relations of access, uptake and authority among their carriers, which the same allocation leaves open
Oct 25, 2026
CLAIM-452: For an organization whose response in each probe context is the authority-weighted mixture of its processes' known response profiles, the authority shares are identifiable from a set of contexts exactly when the processes' stacked profiles over those contexts are affinely independent; because the response is linear in the shares, local and global identifiability coincide, the condition is that the Fisher information of any design supported on those contexts is positive definite on the simplex's tangent space, and with binary outcomes at least one context fewer than there are processes is needed

CLAIM-453: A population of perspectives, each advocating one of two interpretations, makes its collective choice by drift diffusion when the coordinate the decision is read from integrates independent evidence with no net leak or self-reinforcement and commitment is a bound on that coordinate; two interpretations make the reduction one-dimensional, but they do not by themselves give it
Oct 24, 2026
CLAIM-444: A replicator dynamic on the distribution of authority among an organization's processes is the special case of the meaning–authority–legibility model in which the organization's interpretation is the authority-weighted mixture of its processes' and evidence reaches scoring without a maintained regime of its own; the replicator tools (Bayesian reading, potential and harmonic games, stochastic stability) then apply, and the record's separate interpretation and legibility states earn their place exactly where interpretation departs from that mixture or legibility keeps a memory of past authority
Oct 24, 2026
CLAIM-448: An ordinal potential describes only the winning-move relation it is computed on; where an organization's legibility regime selects which contests are admitted or recorded, an acyclic record, even a persistent potential, can be the product of selective contestation, so observed coherence is not evidence that the organization's perspectives are integrated, and an intervention that improves its self-governance may at first increase the disagreement observed
Oct 24, 2026
CLAIM-450: Three standards for a communicative distinction come apart: statistical distinguishability of an interpreter's response profiles, measured locally by the Fisher metric and never raised by a parameter-independent garbling; usability by a bounded receiver, which a transformation can raise; and pragmatic efficacy in the act; and where response models are singular, as Watanabe's theory treats, a missing response can come from an absent attempt or an unresponsive receiver alike, and only intervention or later dynamics separate them
Oct 23, 2026
CLAIM-426: Where a judgement's circulation helps bring about what it says, its visibility, repetition and attributed plurality are evidence about what it will bring about, so the rule that a judgement's authority should come from its grounds and not its visibility holds for judgements of what already is, and not without qualification for judgements of what someone or something will become
Oct 23, 2026
CLAIM-427: Evidence for the organizational-perspective framework comes in three grades: that different organizations produce the same ordinary behaviour, that they respond differently to independently specified interventions, and that a model representing the coupling of significance, authority and reproduction predicts those responses better than the strongest existing alternatives at matched complexity; only the third bears on the framework's defeater, and no grade counts if success is defined in the framework's own terms

CLAIM-431: A corporation's functional remorse cannot be told from prudence: any procedure or role duty that makes others' harms its concern was put there for its own ends, reputation, liability or recruitment, so the line between harm as concern and harm as threat, and with it the line between a remorseful and a psychopathic corporation, does not hold, and the clinical word adds nothing to a description of its incentives
Oct 23, 2026
CLAIM-432: A corporation can be an agent fit to be held responsible and the bearer of functional affect in Frijda's sense, so psychopathy's affective features can be assigned to it as well as its conduct: it lacks remorse, functionally, when harm it does to others is not among the concerns its own appraisals track and gains precedence over what it does only when a regulator or a market turns it into a threat to the corporation's concerns; that profile, threat without remorse, is the construct's, and it is changed by redesigning the corporation's concerns, not its members' characters

CLAIM-433: The potential account of valence is an account of goal-conduciveness valence, not of intrinsic pleasantness: on the component process model's separation of levels of valence, the ordering that prevails ranks states by need satisfaction and goal attainment, the potential's strength tracks 'wanting' and its sign tracks goal conduciveness, while 'liking' is a separate appraisal with its own ordering; so the wanting–liking dissociation is two valence systems coming apart, as that separation predicts, and the objection that the account is not about pleasure is conceded rather than answered

CLAIM-434: On a finite set of outcomes, some function rises with every move that wins one of a negotiation's conflicts exactly when no chain of winning moves returns to where it began, and the length of the longest such chain ending at an outcome is one such function; a perfectly transitive record of which side won each pair, in a complete tournament contesting every pair once, leaves a cyclic share of (n − 2)/3n under the Hodge decomposition, a baseline that does not carry to sparse records; the Hodge gradient can reverse a comparison the wins settle, netting a record erases alternation, a record fixes a class of potentials rather than one, a coherent record is not yet one aligned with any single perspective's ordering, a best-fitting ordering of a cycle is no Lyapunov function, the sign a class of potentials gives can be set-valued, and an ordering fitted to a record overstates its agreement there
Oct 23, 2026
CLAIM-435: Veit's common currency and ALARM's override are two regimes of one ordering serving as the negotiation's potential, compensatory and overriding, so their rivalry over what the first felt valence did becomes the question whether the earliest potential orderings are continuous: in motivational trade-off experiments, a continuous indifference curve between a noxious cost and a resource for Veit, a discontinuity at a threshold beyond which no resource buys the cost for ALARM; only a graded override, deciding at every level of its own intensity, lacks a currency altogether
Oct 23, 2026
CLAIM-436: An instantaneous ordering is a common currency on a finite set of options, where every complete preorder has a real-valued representation, but not in general: the lexicographic order on the unit square has no real-valued representation, while a continuous complete preorder on a connected separable space has a continuous one; so admitting an ordering is strictly weaker than admitting a currency, a graded lexicographic override lies in the gap while an exact threshold override does not, a threshold override with a discrimination threshold is a lexicographic semiorder whose choices can cycle and so is no ordering at all, and even where each instant has a currency, successive currencies need not share exchange rates

CLAIM-437: 'Wanting' and 'liking' are saliences relative to different, overlapping processes, pursuit and consummation, each ranking states by their bearing on its own concerns; valence is then relative to a perspective, every perspective in the negotiation has its own, the system's valence is that of the perspective whose ordering is the negotiation's potential, and ambivalence is strong saliences of opposite sign with no potential absorbing them

Oct 23, 2026
CLAIM-438: An ordering serving as the negotiation's potential, as the potential account of valence defines it, tracks 'wanting', not 'liking': sensitized incentive salience wins a system's conflicts, persists and resumes while hedonic impact measured by taste reactivity stays flat or falls, so the regime the account calls hedonic valence is motivational valence, and hedonic valence, if it is anywhere in the account, is elsewhere

Oct 23, 2026
CLAIM-439: A regime of valence is felt, in the sense of attended and available to the system's other processes, when the system that is in it also models it: when a deeper process infers which ordering wins its negotiation, which way the system is moving along it and how strongly it prevails, and the inference is used elsewhere in the system; unfelt valence is the potential without that model, as unfelt fluency is a change in precision without the inference about it
Oct 23, 2026
CLAIM-440: An organization's appraisal is the negotiation among its perspectives, a common currency is that negotiation's admitting an ordering of the options it faces, and goal-conduciveness valence is a regime in which an ordering of the organization's own states by their bearing on its maintenance prevails in the negotiation; so valence presupposes contested rankings, not frustrated demands, its sign is whether the organization runs ahead of or behind a reference course along the potential ordering, its intensity is how far the negotiation's decisions follow that ordering, and ambivalence, where no ordering prevails, differs from neutrality, where one prevails and the organization keeps to its course
Oct 23, 2026
CLAIM-441: Flow tells against the potential account's condition that valence is undefined where no pair is contested: on the record's own account of flow nothing is overridden because an activity's immediate reward and its longer-run value coincide, yet flow is reported as positive, so either flow's positivity is intrinsic pleasantness and not goal-conduciveness valence, or flow keeps contested pairs its processes settle among themselves, or the positivity comes after the episode and not during it, or the condition is wrong

Oct 23, 2026
CLAIM-442: Frijda's emotion and the potential account's system valence sit on opposite sides of the gap between the precedence a motive claims and the authority it is granted: an emotion, action readiness claiming control precedence, is a claim, a perspective's valence is read on its claims, and the system's valence is read on what the negotiation grants, so a change in grants with the claims fixed, as mindfulness is said to make, changes the system's valence and leaves the perspectives' emotions and valences as they were
Oct 23, 2026
CLAIM-443: A learned prior over which processes govern, P(g | z, H) ∝ exp(βQ(g, z) + b_H(g, z)), its bias b_H trained by reward-modulated Hebbian updates to the relations by which one process recruits or endorses another, is a candidate mechanism for durable authority and for amortized governance; but persistence is not amortization, which is shown only when earlier work replaces later computation, communication or recruitment, and a prior over authority differs from a prior over actions only when what is appropriate changes
Oct 23, 2026
CLAIM-445: A protective regime, in a person, an institution or a system of states, becomes self-maintaining when the interventions it authorizes shift the evidence used to judge its necessity, the authority and resources of those who judge it, the capacities of its constituents or the threat environment itself in ways that favour its continuation; this can happen when the original threat was real and the first protection apt, and it is a failure only where the regime has become less responsive to evidence that it is no longer needed
Oct 23, 2026
CLAIM-446: Some persistent anxiety may be governance-maintained rather than belief-maintained: anticipated threat grants defensive processes authority over action, attention and evidence acquisition; under the avoidance that authority selects, the hypotheses that the situation is dangerous and that it is safe predict the same observation, so repeated safety need not correct the threat estimate; relief reinforces the defense without being evidence of danger; and the regime can outlast a corrected belief, its pathology, where present, being defensive authority insensitive to corrective evidence at avoidable cost
Oct 23, 2026
CLAIM-447: Model-based wanting is a pursuit process's ranking of the futures it predicts under candidate interventions, P(S | do(a)) against P(S | do(a₀)), while cue-triggered wanting is learned salience that need not compute those futures; a process's causal model, its wanting and its practical efficacy are separable, so learning to want differently, learning that a want will not pay, and learning not to act on it are three different changes
Oct 23, 2026
CLAIM-449: The potential account of valence's first consequence, no frustration, no valence, runs together two relations: perspectives' contested rankings, which a record of winning moves registers, and demands that are jointly infeasible, which the compatibility complex registers; rankings can contest while every demand is satisfiable, and demands can be infeasible before any contest is recorded, so the consequence needs one of them named, and the absorbed writer, reported as positive with nothing contested, tests whichever is chosen

Oct 23, 2026
CLAIM-451: When an organization's record of winning moves cycles, the failure is organizational nonintegrability, distinct from a perspective's own preference instability and from switching of the governing regime; it becomes organizational tension only when realized as costly reversal against demands the organization maintains, and cognitive dissonance only when that tension is detected and appraised as aversive; learning can relieve it by accommodation, by entrenched precedence or by cheap periodic coordination, which observed coherence does not tell apart, and ambivalence and nonintegrability entail neither one another
Oct 22, 2026
CLAIM-414: Matched ordinary trajectories can conceal differences in an interpretation's efficacy, in the allocation of that efficacy, and in the maintenance of its enabling constraints: in two finite constructions, systems that agree under ordinary operation differ in each, and a specified intervention exposes the difference that passive observation of the matched trajectories does not
Oct 22, 2026
CLAIM-415: A person can be organized by a judgement they attribute to a collective that does not hold it: the audience in a self-model can be a false unity, and a judgement can shape a person who rejects it, because resisting it makes it consequential
Oct 22, 2026
CLAIM-416: Competing perspectives compete over the tests that measure them as well as under them: success under an evaluative regime is evidence of competence relative to that regime, a fair test need not be neutral across competences, and a perspective that gains influence over the test can change what later success shows
Oct 22, 2026
CLAIM-417: What the record explained by "self" in its dispositional, persisting, self-governing and integrated senses is better explained by organizational perspectives, with a perspective, its carriers, its lineage and its representations kept apart; the subject sense stays a separate question, and narrative, presented and modeled selves involve representations that may describe a perspective, attribute it to a bearer or construct an owner, none of them the perspective itself
Oct 22, 2026
CLAIM-418: Possessing, enacting or being shaped by an organizational perspective does not establish an independent agent, and perspectival, agential and institutional boundaries need not coincide: several agents can share a perspective, one agent can act through several, and a perspective can be reproduced with no agent governing it; where a perspective contributes to an agent's activity it can enable and constrain the exercise of agency, and that exercise can reproduce or transform it, while whether agency universally requires such a perspective stays open

CLAIM-419: The record's grammar is fixed at any moment but amendable by decision, and in practice a move that fit no scheme or relation has repeatedly been treated as a defect of the grammar and answered by amending it, so a move the grammar cannot hold is not only forced or lost; whether every such move is caught is not shown

CLAIM-420: A historical figure's influence can persist in three separable ways, as a story about them, as a perspective transmitted from them, and as later organizations that descend from their activity, and causal descent is not perspectival inheritance: a movement founded to oppose someone can descend from them without continuing their perspective
Oct 22, 2026
CLAIM-421: The cessation of an organizational perspective's enactment need not imply the loss of the dispositions, capacities or reproductive relationships from which it can be reinstated: an interruption can be of activation (the disposition is held but not engaged or retrievable), of enactment (held, but the material, institutional or social conditions for exercising it are gone) or of reproduction (held by some bearers, but the processes that pass it on are damaged), and temporary unavailability is not extinction, though prolonged interruption of reproduction can end a tradition

CLAIM-422: A successful corrective act, an executable procedure and a maintained organizational capacity are three different things, so an organization can record a correction, even rewrite its rules, without the corrected capacity being maintained
Oct 22, 2026
CLAIM-423: In a political collective, components that change at different speeds (attention, coalitions, elected terms, administrative careers, law and treaties, generational memory) are not only nested by timescale: under a given institutional arrangement their different temporal horizons affect which forms of influence each can accumulate, exercise and keep, and so which of them holds authority over the others, so a state can stay continuous as an actor while the organization producing its positions changes under it
Oct 22, 2026
CLAIM-424: Reflexive governance of an organization's perspectival arrangements, making the conditions that govern its own interpretation, evaluation and action available for effective examination and revision, is a capacity some organizations of perspective have and others lack, not what makes something a perspective; and the capacity to revise those standards is not the capacity to revise them well
Oct 22, 2026
CLAIM-425: A perspective governs itself with respect to social judgement to the extent that it keeps access to others' judgements of it while making their authority over its conduct depend on their grounds, not on their visibility, repetition or attributed plurality; neither absorbing every judgement nor resisting every one meets this, since both let the judgements set the terms of response
Oct 22, 2026
CLAIM-428: Material interdependence couples parties' outcomes without fixing the perspective that organizes the coupling: the same dependence can be organized as mutual opportunity, as competitive vulnerability or as coercive leverage, so interdependence makes for peace to the extent that cooperation also changes which interests the parties' institutions recognize and who holds influence over them, and payoff coupling alone does not settle which
Oct 22, 2026
CLAIM-429: Where interpretation decides the occasions for cooperation and cooperation's outcomes revise interpretation, an intervention can change the loop's state or its coupling: a favourable exception changes the state and leaves the rule that judges exceptions as it was, while a change in how far outcomes may revise the governing interpretation changes the coupling, and where the coupling does not depend on the state, only the second changes how later evidence is taken
Oct 22, 2026
CLAIM-430: An interaction can make available a way of relating that its participants' operative perspectives did not hold, by giving each a role to enact in it, so that taking part can come before, and help produce, the reinterpretation it later seems to express; whether the change stays with the partner, generalizes to a category, or is reproduced beyond the encounter are further questions
Oct 21, 2026
CLAIM-399: Causal abstraction in the senses of Rubenstein et al., Beckers and Halpern, and Beckers, Eberhardt and Halpern does not secure governance-response sufficiency: exact transformation, τ-abstraction and zero approximate-abstraction distance all accept the hidden-bit coarse-graining, which loses ρ(h = 1) bits of the response to h, because each lets high-level noise carry what the coarse state drops; for one outcome and the identity correspondence, sufficiency is their compatibility condition with the high-level context fixed to the coarse state, and strong abstraction rejects the case only through interventions on the hidden parameter

CLAIM-400: In the meaning–authority model linearized at symmetry, a third, maintained legibility state that authority moves (ε) and that moves interpretation (ν) or endorsement (μ), with persistence λ < 1 and nonnegative couplings, destabilizes the symmetric state exactly when the two-variable condition holds with β + νε/(1 − λ) in place of β and δ + με/(1 − λ) in place of δ: at the threshold the regime is indistinguishable from stronger two-variable couplings, and the slower it is the more it adds, while away from the threshold it adds a mode that no two-variable model has, so a lean in the regime can outlast the advantages it was built from

CLAIM-401: The conditions an effective description is commonly asked to meet are not of one kind: predictive sufficiency and approximation fidelity are adequacy relative to a declared target, metric and horizon; tractability restricts the operations under which adequacy is assessed; dynamical independence and memory closure are relations of the representation to the system, memory relative to a chosen projection; so a matrix over them as independent binary axes conflates kinds
Oct 21, 2026
CLAIM-402: Predictive success of a category across contexts warrants treating it as a real effective kind only when the evidence in those contexts does not pass through the category's own use, or when the effect of that use is modelled: a category that speakers or institutions act on can produce the regularities that confirm it, and contexts that share its use are not independent

CLAIM-403: A contribution's admission to an organization's inquiry, its recognition in apt terms, its credibility, its uptake into judgements, and its contributor's part in revising the standards of uptake are separable, each possible without the later ones, so an organization can widen access while every channel by which a less authoritative contribution could change the criteria of authority stays closed
Oct 21, 2026
CLAIM-404: An organization can be governed from outside without any of its decisions being made for it, through the evidence its own procedures receive or through the criteria by which they weigh evidence; the two routes are distinct and each is possible without the other, so informational and evaluative independence do not imply each other; and where the organization's role is to evaluate another that affects its evidence or resources, the interpretation–authority loop can close between the two institutions, so that formal independence of the evaluator's procedure does not make its evaluation independent
Oct 21, 2026
CLAIM-405: An individuation is well defined only once its criterion is fixed (the target it serves, the transformations its unity must survive, the scale), and that dependence does not make it arbitrary: once the criterion is fixed a verdict can be false, and differently fixed criteria can pick out units of one system whose boundaries cross rather than nest, none of them less real for it
Oct 21, 2026
CLAIM-406: Structural, pre-emptive testimonial injustice has the form of the record's trust loop: an arrangement that decides whose word is sought can keep an early exclusion going through the indicators of competence that only being sought produces, with no continuing prejudiced act; but the loop alone cannot tell perpetuated privilege from merited expertise, because that needs the prejudice condition the dynamics do not contain

CLAIM-407: A coarse-graining exactly informationally closed under a process's ordinary dynamics need not preserve its responses to an intervention on the mechanism: for a declared intervention distribution ρ, independent of the state, the deficiency Γ = I(S; Y^(I) | T(S), I) can be positive, as in the hidden governance bit, where it is ρ(h = 1) bits; and Γ = 0 exactly when, for every intervention ρ charges, the response kernels are constant on T's fibres over the states of positive probability

CLAIM-408: In ḋ = (α − κ)d − βd³, with d the difference between two parties' shares of authority, α their self-reinforcement and κ a constraint that bears on both alike, the equal allocation is the only equilibrium and is stable for κ > α, and for κ < α it is unstable and the unequal allocations ±√((α − κ)/β) are stable: a constraint that favours neither party can, by weakening, destabilize the equal allocation and make persistent unequal allocations stable, of any size near the threshold (|d*| → 0 as κ → α), without determining which party gains the larger share, and in this model restoring κ > α restores the equal allocation
Oct 21, 2026
CLAIM-409: For one state law, one intervention distribution and one outcome, a deficiency of sufficiency cannot increase under refinement: if T₁ = g∘T₂ then Γ(T₂) ≤ Γ(T₁); informational closure, by contrast, is monotone in neither direction, since in the three-bit chain of Rosas et al. (2024) A is closed, its refinement (A, B) is not and the full state refining that is closed again, while A⊕B, a coarsening of (A, B), is not closed either; closure fails to be monotone because refining a description changes the future it must predict as well as the evidence, so Blackwell dominance, which every deterministic refinement has over its coarsening, does not order closure
Oct 21, 2026
CLAIM-410: Removing a constraint on an organization's members does not move it along one scale of more or less governance: it changes a profile of who holds rule-making, monitoring, enforcement, appeal and revision, in which the authority the constraint held can be eliminated, distributed or transferred, and the members' first-order options and their share in revising the conditions of their action can move in opposite directions
Oct 21, 2026
CLAIM-411: Under the broad, nonphenomenal definition of interpretation the constitutive thesis uses, substantial processing that is not independently shown to be experiential meets the definition, blindsight's apparently unconscious visual discrimination among it, so interpretation alone does not establish experience, and the thesis must say which further organizational properties, if any, make an interpretation experiential
Oct 21, 2026
CLAIM-412: Experience is constituted by interpretive organization, not produced by it: an appropriately organized process in which signals acquire significance for a system is the experience, so whether a system can have experience becomes whether it can sustain that organization
Oct 21, 2026
CLAIM-413: Grounding is not a property of an experience but a relation among an interpretation, what it purports to be about, and a process that constrains it independently; its current, developmental and epistemic senses come apart from one another, and in the current sense it comes apart from whether the interpretation occurs, so ungrounded is not unconstrained, and what makes an interpretive organization experiential need not be what makes its contents veridical

CLAIM-391: For any classes with weights π_c and per-class factor matrices H_c and Δ_c, the class-wise Kronecker product Σ_c π_c H_c ⊗ Δ_c exceeds the product of the weighted averages H̄ ⊗ Δ̄ by exactly the weighted between-class covariance Σ_c π_c (H_c − H̄) ⊗ (Δ_c − Δ̄), so the two agree when either factor is the same in every class

CLAIM-392: Stochastic information-bottleneck optima at two budgets need not be nested: for X uniform on four states and binary Y with P(Y=1|x) = (0, 0, 1/8, 3/8), the unique optima at β = 8 and β = 12 admit no Markov chain X → T₂ → T₁, so raising the budget reorganizes the optimum even with noisy encoders

CLAIM-393: Ordinary and legal attributions of agency to an artifact cannot serve as the independent marks that would defeat the record's agency test, because they turn on whether its mechanism is understood: a known mechanism invites "This is all just programmed!", an inscrutable one invites fear, whatever the description lengths

CLAIM-394: In a stationary linear Gaussian VAR(1) that is time-reversible (AΠ = ΠAᵀ, Π the stationary covariance), every slow-feature direction is a left eigenvector of A, so any span of slow features is an exactly dynamically independent coarse-graining; off reversibility a slow feature is in general neither independent nor free of memory

CLAIM-395: Under Montévil and Mossio's definition of closure, a closed set of constraints has at least two members, and if each constraint is produced at the time scale of a constraint in the set that generates it and not at the scale at which it is itself conserved, the set includes at least one slow and one fast dependence, so a system with a single constraint of its own cannot realise closure

CLAIM-398: In a stable linear Gaussian VAR(1) on ℝⁿ, a scalar linear coarse variable Y = LX is, in its own law, an ARMA process of orders at most (n, n − 1); so its Mori–Zwanzig memory, though non-zero at every lag in general, is carried exactly by finitely many coordinates that are functions of Y's own past and innovations

CLAIM-346: Feasibility, aggregation and epistemic coordination are independent obstructions to an organization's realizing its demands: each can occur with the other two absent
Oct 18, 2026
CLAIM-347: Frustration among an organization's demands is an ordinal fact before it is a quantity: the jointly satisfiable sets of demands form a downward-closed complex whose minimal non-faces are the minimal conflicts, relief is strict enlargement of that complex for the same declared demands, reorganizations that relieve different conflicts are incomparable, and dropping or suppressing a demand is not relief
Oct 18, 2026
CLAIM-348: No coarse-graining is normatively adequate in general because it preserves stability, prediction or aggregate performance: a description adequate for an institution's performance can merge states its members' claims must distinguish, so adequacy is fixed by the evaluative target, and the target cannot be justified solely by the description that preserves it
Oct 18, 2026
CLAIM-349: An organization's access to a signal, the signal's authority over action, and action on it are separable, and adaptive regulation keeps the first while making the second conditional on evidence; overcontrol, which buys freedom from harmful acts by cutting access or making inhibition unconditional, is a maladaptive regime and not more control, so flexibility is a context-sensitive property of maintained influence relations, not of how much is inhibited
Oct 18, 2026

CLAIM-351: A zero aggregate gradient does not show that the demands it aggregates are reconciled: with positive weights it holds both when every demand's own gradient vanishes and when nonzero gradients cancel, and in the second case no update improves them all to first order; even the first is only joint first-order stationarity, which a demand's maximum or saddle also has
Oct 18, 2026
CLAIM-352: Sen's two aspects of freedom divide along the record's line between what an agent can viably reach and the organization that selects among it: viable reachability can stand for the opportunity aspect only through a map from trajectories to valued functionings, which control theory does not supply, and will-organization gives a causal account of part of the process aspect, not of its fairness or legitimacy
Oct 18, 2026
CLAIM-353: A will-organization that gives two operators decisive jurisdiction over a pair of options each, respects unanimous preference and admits any profile of operator rankings cannot always choose, and unlike Arrow's impossibility this is not escaped by giving endorsement richer, cardinal or comparable, information, so what distributed governance must give up is jurisdiction, unanimity or the domain, not an informational restriction
Oct 18, 2026
CLAIM-354: Freedom of will and autonomy come in degrees along several dimensions, among them viable reachability, control cost, robustness to disturbance, governance reconfigurability, revisability and motivational integration, and agents compare by inclusion of what they can viably reach under matched conditions: a partial order with incomparable pairs, not a scalar, and a gradient only of a declared measure
Oct 18, 2026
CLAIM-355: In a distributed agent the binding of appraisal, readiness and governance into one response can be real while the single owner a self-model or collective self-description attributes it to is a representational construction, not a further entity; the illusion, where there is one, is in the attribution and belongs to whichever system adopts the representation, and this deflates the self without settling whether experience is real
Oct 18, 2026
CLAIM-356: An objective that originates outside a learning system can become a goal of the training organization, through its causal role in selecting, stabilizing and reproducing the learned structure it rewards; exogenous origin does not disqualify a goal, but it does not show that the network governs or endorses the objective, and what is selected is performance on the updating distribution, not generalization
Oct 18, 2026
CLAIM-357: The frustration residual and governance regret separate structural infeasibility, realized violation and minimax suboptimality, and identify none of them as thwarting: a positive residual says no admissible update meets every declared requirement, a positive regret only that the actual update's worst residual exceeds the best achievable, which can hold while every requirement is met, and actual violation needs regret above the negative residual; aggregate performance does not tell infeasibility from realized violation, and the multipliers that certify infeasibility need not be the weights governance assigns
Oct 18, 2026
CLAIM-358: Learned local accommodation can reduce the amortized cost of recurrent arbitration: where a recurring conflict among an agent's processes admits a stable accommodation, settling it among the processes can cost less over repeated encounters than escalating each instance to a higher-level process that mediates or overrides, though local negotiation and the relations it needs are not free
Oct 18, 2026
CLAIM-359: A self-governing organization's robustness to compromised constituents is a property of the processes that allocate, audit and revise authority, not only of its constraints on harmful acts; safeguards against capture can also restrict the disagreement and revision that self-governance needs, and where they do security and self-governance trade off, while others, such as audits independent of the audited that protect dissent, serve both, so the two are distinct achievements and not opposed ones
Oct 18, 2026
CLAIM-360: The deep-versus-shallow learning results separate three effects that aggregate loss conflates: a larger realizable function class, a larger set reachable within a fixed data and compute budget, and a different internal organization with the same attainable outcomes; the deep linear results show the third, the random-hierarchy results the second, and the depth-separation result for products of inputs the first, at fixed size
Oct 18, 2026
CLAIM-361: Relief of an organization's frustration must be judged for an identified organization against a fixed reference set of its original demands, under an explicit correspondence between earlier and later demands: a demand excised or suppressed has changed the comparison and has not been satisfied, an endogenous revision of what the organization maintains is a transformation of it and not relief, and learning can change which processes bear the demands
Oct 18, 2026
CLAIM-362: Non-domination of an agent's subcomponents is a candidate constituent of authenticity as an organizational achievement, not a sufficient criterion of ownership: higher-level processes need not impose the outcome because the lower-level ones already support it or settle their disagreement among themselves, and a process that rarely decides keeps access to the roles in which it is consequential
Oct 18, 2026
CLAIM-363: A normative judgment is well-defined only once its relata are fixed (the organization or standpoint it concerns, the standard, the scale and the context), and that dependence does not by itself make it relative: once they are fixed, the judgment can be false

CLAIM-365: On a norm-ball update set the local frustration residual Φ_r = min over ‖d‖ ≤ r of max_i(ε_i + g_iᵀd) equals the maximum over the simplex of Σλ_iε_i − r‖Σλ_ig_i‖_*, so infeasibility of the declared improvements has a certificate, and any admissible actual update exceeds Φ_r by a nonnegative governance regret
Oct 18, 2026
CLAIM-366: Whether several objectives share a strict first-order descent direction, 0 ∉ conv{g_i}, is invariant under smooth invertible reparameterization, while the sign of a Euclidean gradient inner product is not, and a negative inner product does not exclude common descent; a budgeted version is invariant only with the metric pulled back
Oct 18, 2026
CLAIM-367: Whether a training-time regulatory condition belongs to a network depends on which unit is individuated for the training dynamics and whose jurisdiction governs the updates; in conventional training most of that governance falls to the optimizer–model–data system, so a condition of training is not thereby a condition of the network
Oct 18, 2026
CLAIM-368: The primitive for an organization's regulatory difficulty is frustration, not distress: a relation between maintained, consequential demands and the incompatibilities, constraints or countervailing processes that limit their realization, independent of strain, the burden of sustaining activity, and distinct from distress, a possible integrated response to either
Oct 18, 2026
CLAIM-369: In symmetric resource-mediated competition with interaction matrix A = UᵀU and growth rates r = Uᵀb − c, Lotka–Volterra population dynamics are multiplicative gradient flow on the convex feature-selection objective ½‖b − Un‖² + cᵀn over the nonnegative orthant: the invasion fitness of an absent component is the negative partial derivative of that objective, and the uninvadable equilibria are its KKT points
Oct 17, 2026
CLAIM-335: Transfer entropy measures directed predictive improvement, not information flow: as a conditional mutual information it is the source's unique information about the target's next value plus its synergy with the target's past, so it can credit a source with a bit the source carries only jointly and read zero from sources that jointly fix the target, and conditioning on more series does not remove the synergy

CLAIM-343: For three or more parts, no ΦID can use a redundancy function that both satisfies the identity axiom and yields nonnegative atoms, because on the Williams–Beer lattice the two are inconsistent from three sources up; a ΦID verdict on three or more parts therefore rests on which axiom the analyst drops, and should name it

Oct 16, 2026

CLAIM-330: In the coupled meaning–influence model linearized at its symmetric state, with each field stable alone and nonnegative couplings, the coupling destabilizes symmetry exactly when βγ > (1 − α)(1 − δ): only the loop can do it, and the direction that grows mixes meaning and authority

CLAIM-333: Measuring every relevant variable is necessary but not sufficient for a Granger-causal analysis to say anything about interventions: the intervention must also be an isolated exogenous change and no influence may act within one sampling step, and then Granger noncausality implies no intervention effect and the effect is identified from the observational predictor, but a Granger-causal relation is still only potentially causal

CLAIM-336: The pragmatic-transport and will-organization lines describe one model, an organization of operators that act on a shared interpretive state under a context while allocating one another's influence: a frame is the context under which operators act, a judgement is the response they yield, an action-generating regime is an operator or coalition, and a will-organization is the dynamics that allocates influence among them
Oct 16, 2026
CLAIM-337: Active inference already runs an internal loop: mental action selects among higher-level cognitive states and sets the precision of lower-level observations, structure learning reshapes the generative model without action, and a judgement is behaviour, so a judgement–observation loop may be action and perception one Markov blanket inward
Oct 16, 2026
CLAIM-339: A judgement–observation loop cut off from action loses one route for evidence it did not select, and the free-energy principle's reason for minimizing surprise, that a persisting system must keep its states in bounds, needs action on the world, though a loop can confirm itself with action available too
Oct 16, 2026
CLAIM-340: Scoring operators on predictions committed before the evidence is not by itself Regime B: in the linearized operator model the coupling of interpretation to endorsement has the sign of κ′ − κ̄, so commitment removes capture only when the interpretation bends the reading of the evidence no more than it bends the predictions, and it keeps the learning that revising after the evidence would lose

CLAIM-341: The loop that keeps a lucid agent's model in touch with what it models runs between judgement and observation: each judgement reshapes the observer whose later observations it then judges, and action on the world is not part of that loop, so active inference's action–perception cycle misplaces where the agent is active
Oct 16, 2026
CLAIM-342: What keeps a judgement–observation loop from confirming itself is evidence whose arrival or scoring does not pass through the interpretation it tests; action is one source of such evidence, not a necessary one, and a loop that selects its own evidence can lock in with action available

Oct 15, 2026
CLAIM-303: Filing an argument moves work across time: it is paid for now, in filing, indexing, tracking dependencies and checking it is still current, against reconstruction later, so it is worth its cost only when expected reuse covers it, and recurrence is evidence of reuse, not the criterion

Oct 15, 2026
CLAIM-305: Resolving a singularity by blow-up reparametrizes the states and adds no observation, so it cannot make indistinguishable states distinguishable: every point over a singular point gives the same distribution, and the Fisher information can stay degenerate there; what the resolution buys is a normal form for the divergence, and so the learning coefficient

CLAIM-306: Under a deadline, search can establish presence by finding one item but absence only by exhausting the collection, so "If I can't find it, it isn't there" acts on an unfinished search as negation as failure acts on a finished one: a default stronger than either the closed-world assumption or negation as failure, safe only when the arrangement makes the full search finish within the deadline
Oct 15, 2026
CLAIM-307: Retrieval pressure and evidence are different criteria for carving a category, and they move in opposite directions with copy count: evidence that a distinction exists grows with its copies, the search a bin saves shrinks with them, so the bins a deadline forces are often the ones the data least supports
Oct 15, 2026
CLAIM-308: Where reuse cannot be forecast, recurrence weighted by reconstruction cost is the filing criterion, not only evidence for one: filing at the first use at which reconstructing again would take the overpayment past the cost of filing is within 2 − (c_a + u)/c_r of the hindsight optimum on every sequence of uses, at most twice, and no deterministic rule without foresight guarantees materially better, under fixed known costs, with staleness left out and the cost of recognizing what a filed argument answers taken as fixed

Oct 15, 2026
CLAIM-310: Sorting schemes over objects with determinate properties never conflict as descriptions, since the product of any sortings refines them all; they conflict as arrangements, since a fixed number of bins realizes one partition when each item is stored once, and which costs least depends on what is searched for and on what stands out within a bin
Oct 15, 2026
CLAIM-311: A search cut off before an exhaustive pass can establish absence when the arrangement certifies that the unsearched remainder cannot hold the item: a sorted table answers non-membership in a logarithmic number of probes, and the Threshold Algorithm stops early with its answer proved, so absence needs a certificate about the remainder, not exhaustion; similarity search in high dimension is where no such certificate exists
Oct 15, 2026
CLAIM-312: "If I can't find it, it isn't there" asserts operational unavailability, that the item will not be put to use before the deadline, not absence: a search that fails by the deadline establishes unavailability outright, and licenses absence only with a certificate that the unsearched remainder cannot hold the item, from exhaustion, from an invariant of the arrangement, or from a closed-world default
Oct 15, 2026
CLAIM-313: A fixed number of bins realizes one partition only when each item is stored once: with copies, overlapping partitions coexist, as hashing-based similarity search stores each item in many partitions and pays for it in space, so sortings conflict as arrangements only under a one-copy constraint, which binds bricks but not index entries
Oct 15, 2026
CLAIM-314: Reusing a filed argument has a recognition cost that a fixed per-use price leaves out: certifying that stored answers cover a new question is NP-complete even for conjunctive queries, grows with the number and size of the stored definitions rather than being a constant per item, and is undefined for an item filed without a statement of what it answers, so each filing raises the cost of later reuse and per-item break-even decisions are not independent
Oct 15, 2026

CLAIM-317: Self-presentations that differ by audience do no harm while the audiences are kept apart; people keep them apart and script the occasions where they must meet, and broadcast and networked media bring them together unchosen, which is when the presentations collide

CLAIM-318: Within a shared observational scenario, exact structure-preserving symmetries are the invertible members of a nested family of stochastic transports, and among Markov kernels between finite sets the invertible ones are the permutation matrices, so the invertible core is the relabellings, a groupoid in which objects joined by an arrow have isomorphic automorphism groups

CLAIM-319: Over a scenario of n contexts in an odd cycle, changing the support of one context takes the contextual fraction from 1 to 0 while the other n − 1 contexts and every marginal are kept exactly, at a weighted observational distortion of 1/n, so within a scenario the fraction's Lipschitz constant against that distortion is at least n; and any change of global extension needs a contextual model on one side

Oct 15, 2026
CLAIM-320: Within one fixed measurement scenario, two no-signalling empirical models can agree on all but one of their contexts and on every single-observable marginal while their contextual fractions are 1 and 0, so keeping most local judgement distributions does not fix their global compatibility

CLAIM-321: In text-to-image diffusion models each condition of a prompt can be met while their conjunction or relational binding fails: benchmarks find single objects rendered almost always and spatial relations and attribute binding failing most, and composing by adding scores does worst on relations

CLAIM-322: Agreement under a probe family is evidence that two objects share structure only to the degree that the family was chosen independently of the comparison and is evaluated on cases it was not chosen on, so a family selected to make two objects look alike shows only that it can be selected

CLAIM-323: Where source and rendering are experiments about one common situation, a rendering that depends on the situation other than through the source is not a garbling of it and can be incomparable with it in Blackwell's order: with Z uniform on {1, 2, 3}, a source that tells whether Z = 1 and a rendering that tells whether Z = 3 each have the lower 0–1 risk on one of the problems of saying whether Z = 1 and whether Z = 3, so neither dominates

CLAIM-324: In the What Survives Translation? exchange, the manuscript drafted straight from the crystallized argument changed the thesis with no turn arguing the move and dropped 24 of that argument's items, none on request, and the second crystallized argument announced its change of question but left items out without saying which had dissolved and which were lost

CLAIM-325: The behavioural data the record has read show no contextuality proper: none of the five kinds of data Dzhafarov, Zhang and Kujala re-analyse is contextual, Wang et al. test none of their 90 language systems for it, and no documented test of pragmatic or meaning judgements finds it at adequate power

CLAIM-326: With losses in [0, 1] and a stated prior, the positive part of the Bayes-risk increase on the same decision problem, D⁺_Q(U → V; π), is directed, is zero from a garbling back to its source, vanishes for every finite problem and prior exactly when the rendering is at least as informative as the source in Blackwell's order, over finitely many states and a source whose outcome space is standard Borel, and has A86's D_Q, with the identity on tasks, as its symmetrization

CLAIM-263: Whether two trained networks compute the same way can be tested by quotienting the architecture's full symmetry group and measuring what remains: a barrier that survives alignment marks a different mechanism, connection after alignment means shared feature structure, and the test cannot run where features have no counterpart

Oct 13, 2026
CLAIM-264: Two objects can agree on every probe in a restricted family without being isomorphic, so equivalence under a probe family is coarser than identity unless the family is rich enough
Oct 13, 2026
CLAIM-265: Local descriptions that disagree are not thereby incompatible: whether they obstruct a joint description is decided only relative to a specified class of admissible correspondences between their observations, and a correspondence admitted only because it removes the disagreement decides nothing
Oct 13, 2026
CLAIM-266: A family of probes that supplies an optimized system's training signal cannot also certify what the system preserves: optimization pushes toward whatever the probes reward, including what they cannot see, so preservation must be shown under probes not used to train it
Oct 13, 2026
CLAIM-267: Per-step discrepancies between a chain of maps and a reference chain compound through the sensitivity of the later steps, so the same local error can be damped, accumulated or amplified, and closeness at every step can coexist with large end-to-end divergence

- probabilistic-modeling
Oct 13, 2026
CLAIM-268: Model stitching certifies an order of information only in its reconstruction form: a map fitted to reproduce the target layers shows the source representation is at least as informative for every decision on the label, task-loss stitching compares one decision problem through a fixed head, and a failure to stitch is no evidence against sufficiency

CLAIM-270: Retaining information about where a Markov chain started and staying close to the starting distribution are different properties: a chain can forget its initial state while its distribution stays far from where it began, so convergence is not preservation and losing information about the origin is not degradation

CLAIM-271: A collective's reasons need not be any of its members' reasons, so aggregating members' conclusions, as polling does, can yield verdicts the collective's own reasons do not support
Oct 13, 2026
CLAIM-272: Giving every member an equal budget of actions does not equalize their influence: coordination is one route, letting a member's plan direct other members' actions, so a cap on self-allocation constrains action and not authority
- social-ontology
- self-governance
Oct 13, 2026
CLAIM-273: A maintained r/place artwork copied from an off-canvas design is a dissipative structure in Prigogine's structural sense, order held only by a sustained flow of repair against rival coalitions and against unaffiliated placement whose rate falls over the event, but its order is imported from the design and not born of an instability
- complex-systems
- thermodynamics
Oct 13, 2026
CLAIM-274: Participation on a shared canvas thins selectively: people keep coming back while art they invested in survives, so unaffiliated corruption falls over the event and the remaining participants are weighted toward maintainers, a cooling schedule the population produces for itself

Oct 13, 2026
CLAIM-276: A shared interpretation's coherence, its fidelity to evidence and the plurality of live alternatives are separate quantities, and a population can raise the first while lowering the other two, so a collective interpretation's stability is no evidence of its truth
- social-ontology
- epistemology
Oct 13, 2026
CLAIM-277: Durable authority among an organization's processes need not be a primitive: trust can be the temporal regularity of endorsement that policies earn by being right often, and the same loop entrenches whatever gained influence early
- self-governance
- social-ontology

- self-governance
- complex-systems
Oct 13, 2026
CLAIM-280: A pattern can persist while every constituent is replaced and some constituents work against it, as a high-turnover regime of damage and repair, so the persistence of a product and the persistence of the organization producing it are separate facts

CLAIM-281: Endorsement indexed by role lets a process empower another as a critic while opposing its preferred policy, so an organization that allocates authority by role can keep disagreement working inside it instead of sorting into factions
- self-governance
- social-ontology
Oct 13, 2026
CLAIM-282: Forbidding self-endorsement does not stop an operator from amplifying its own authority: under damped recursive delegation, reciprocal and cyclic endorsements recycle authority, so an operator's authority depends on its own endorsements, while one-hop allocation within an epoch, from budgets and baselines fixed independently of outgoing endorsements, makes it exactly independent of them
- self-governance
- social-ontology
Oct 13, 2026
CLAIM-283: The precedence a motive claims over action and the authority the rest of the organization grants it are different quantities: a motive can claim control without receiving it, and be granted control it does not claim

Oct 13, 2026
CLAIM-285: An endorsement scheme that denies each operator control over its own authority can make delegation do work: rewarded for how far their preferred policies are realized and not for authority held, operators delegate to aligned others, and the two conditions need not be confined to one-hop allocation
- self-governance
- social-ontology
Oct 13, 2026
CLAIM-286: Habit, akrasia, rumination, rigidity and insight can be modelled as regimes of one organization, in which processes transform shared meaning and allocate one another's influence, with trust, specialization and higher-level agency arising from its history and not imposed
- self-governance

- self
- individuation
Oct 13, 2026
CLAIM-288: In a population whose operators each maximize an objective the modeller fixed, the norms the organization appears to maintain are set by the modeller, not by the organization: they can become its goals through their role in selecting what persists, but it does not produce or revise them
- self-governance

Oct 12, 2026
CLAIM-187: Whether two systems compute the same way can be tested by quotienting the full admissible symmetry group and measuring what remains: a residual barrier marks a different mechanism, and a feature with no counterpart blocks the comparison
- representation-learning
- loss-landscapes
Oct 12, 2026
CLAIM-190: The anchoring measures are computed in the grammar that shapes the argument, so by themselves they cannot certify that drift fell: drift must also be judged under standards the record did not supply
- design-rationale
- epistemology
Oct 12, 2026
CLAIM-192: A multi-session argument's thesis can move without any participant arguing for the move, which is a case of an organized whole's course coming apart from its members' intentions
- design-rationale
- social-ontology
Oct 12, 2026

- representation-learning
- mathematics
Oct 12, 2026
CLAIM-194: A gap or coupling criterion cannot tell a boundary a system produces from one imposed on it: a membrane the cell makes and a beam joining two pendulums pass alike, so the block test cannot by itself supply the individuality minimal agency needs
Oct 12, 2026
CLAIM-196: A person's roles in contexts that do not meet cannot contradict one another: role conflict needs an overlap, which segregating audiences prevents and collapsed contexts create
Oct 12, 2026
CLAIM-197: Sections over contexts that do not overlap always glue, so a sense that differs between disjoint contexts is not a gluing failure: a failure needs an overlap carrying sections that disagree, and which families count as covers decides whether anything glues
Oct 12, 2026
CLAIM-198: Preference reversal is not yet disunity: interests that govern a choice at disjoint times glue, and a self is divided over a choice only on an overlap, which the agent's prediction of its own later valuation creates
Oct 12, 2026
CLAIM-205: Functional and relevance-theoretic accounts of translation, as Nida, Nord and Gutt state them, need not fix one context or a static stance profile of the rendering
Oct 12, 2026
CLAIM-213: A proposed relational kind is a hypothesis about invariance across admissible changes of measurement and context, not an equivalence class under the measurements now available, so realism about kinds gains empirical content as extrapolation to probe families, populations and environments not used to construct them
Oct 12, 2026
CLAIM-250: What a developing argument should preserve through legitimate revision is its accountability structure, what was asserted, why, how it was challenged and what justified its revision, not its propositions, so fidelity is defined over justificatory and provenance relations while propositional content changes
- design-rationale
- epistemology
Oct 12, 2026
CLAIM-251: A change in which questions a receiver population can answer determinately is not by itself a change of cover in the sheaf sense: the cover belongs to the measurement scenario and the responses are an empirical model on it, so such a change is a change of empirical model, which can create or remove a gluing obstruction on a fixed cover but does not change what the cover is, and the operational notion needs its own name until a functorial link is shown
Oct 12, 2026
CLAIM-255: Intending to perform an act, performing it and being recognized as having performed it are distinct, coupled variables: intended meaning is fixed at production, the act partly by roles, standing and norms, and recognition by uptake, so competent uptake is constitutive for some acts, evidential for others and irrelevant to the existence of still others
Oct 12, 2026
CLAIM-261: Synchronization of an agent's interests is desirable, but not necessary for acting as one: internal conflict shows a human agent acting while its interests stay divided
Oct 12, 2026
CLAIM-262: Whether an agent's regimes are coordinated by discrete switches or by continuous reorganization depends on how the agent is constituted; both occur
Oct 11, 2026
CLAIM-152: Any individuation built on sufficiency is relative to the target it is sufficient for: fix the outcomes differently and a different partition wins, so no boundary drawn this way is universal
Oct 11, 2026
CLAIM-153: Failure of a self to hold together across contexts is a monodromy around a cycle of contexts: any two locally consistent contexts glue, and the minimal model of the obstruction needs three
Oct 11, 2026
CLAIM-154: A candidate structure is worth naming as a unit when its effect-to-noise ratio outruns the Occam cost of keeping it: reify when d'² exceeds the log prior-to-posterior variance ratio, where the model with the candidate stays regular at the parameters that switch it off
Oct 11, 2026
CLAIM-155: Willed agency is a kind between agency and selfhood: a control system whose behaviour is governed by a will-organization over several regimes is more than an agent and closer to a self, in the self-governing sense, without thereby being a subject
Oct 11, 2026
CLAIM-156: Mindfulness integrates a population of interests by changing which of them may act, and not only by changing what they value: noticing an impulse as an impulse suspends the step from its momentary dominance to its control of action, and that step needs no change in the discount curves
Oct 11, 2026
CLAIM-157: Relative to a stated target, a combined form is one system while its joint dynamics are nearly decomposable with the form as a block whose gap beats the Occam factor, and it lasts as long as that block persists; the unit is the gap-isolated block, not any member
Oct 11, 2026
CLAIM-158: Systems differ in whether "who drives?" has an answer at a given level of description, and the kinds form a spectrum: fully top-down, bidirectional, emergent from the whole, and between
Oct 11, 2026
CLAIM-159: The record's rival accounts of will are claims about drive profiles in different cells: Ainslie's interests are aggregate or emergent, the expected value of control is top-down, and will-organization is the maintained organization that governs how the drive profile changes
Oct 11, 2026
CLAIM-160: Data written for a potential future receiver has its intended meaning fixed by the write: even if it is never read, what it was meant to say was settled when it was stored
Oct 11, 2026
CLAIM-161: A system persists as the same self over an interval when a coherence measure is approximately conserved along its own trajectory, not merely matched by some map between its states
Oct 11, 2026
CLAIM-162: In flow an activity's immediate reward and its longer-run value coincide, so no interest has to be overridden (synchronization as non-crossing valuations, with no dynamical mechanism claimed), and that is why focused action in flow is reported as effortless
Oct 11, 2026
CLAIM-163: "Synchronization" is an analogy without a mechanism: phase synchrony among coupled oscillators has a coupling, an order parameter and transitions, valuations that fail to cross have none of these, and the word adds nothing to "the curves do not cross"
- behavioral-integration
- complex-systems
Oct 11, 2026
CLAIM-164: What a spectral gap makes definite is the subspace of the cluster it isolates, not a single direction: the gap picks the object, and the object is a vector only when its own gap is wide
Oct 11, 2026
CLAIM-165: A combined form constituted by mutual entrainment is not thereby a self in the subject sense: two dancers in phase are one coordination, an autonomous process, and still two subjects
Oct 11, 2026
CLAIM-166: A lower-level collective within the composite person, such as the gut microbiome, can at times drive higher-level behaviour and even experience: the routes exist and the effects are causal in rodents, while the human evidence is modest
Oct 11, 2026
CLAIM-167: One-way drive rightly passes the threshold criterion: a metronome and its musician, or a nerve and its muscle, form one system relative to a target that needs both, and the direction of coupling gives the system's internal architecture, not its membership
Oct 11, 2026
CLAIM-168: Identifying agents by their will-organization is circular: will-organization is defined for an agent already given, and the agent-versus-device comparison presupposes an identified system, so neither can produce the factorization it is meant to find
- agency
- individuation
Oct 11, 2026
CLAIM-169: On Ainslie's account the population of interests is produced by desynchronized valuation, not given by a fixed architecture: an agent is many interests over a choice only as far as its valuations of that choice cross within the choice's horizon
Oct 11, 2026
CLAIM-170: The agents in a system are a factorization of it relative to a level of description and a target; agents in general are identified by adaptation, and willed agents are individuated by their will-organization: a willed agent is the jurisdiction of a will-organization
Oct 11, 2026

- pragmatics
- philosophy-of-language
Oct 11, 2026
CLAIM-172: Mutual entrainment is a sufficient mark of a combined form, and marks it as one of peers: when each side adjusts the other's timing the pair carries a collective variable neither has alone; one-way drive also makes a combined form, with a hierarchical architecture
Oct 11, 2026
CLAIM-173: The threshold criterion measures coupling strength, and coupling is not constitution: a metronome driving a musician, or a nerve driving a muscle, forms a strongly coupled block that clears the threshold without being one system
- individuation
- embodied-cognition
Oct 11, 2026
CLAIM-174: A candidate factor is an agent at a level when it is one system there, when a goal-directed description beats a device description by more than the Occam cost, and when its policy would adapt if its actions' consequences changed; it is a willed agent when, further, a will-organization over several regimes describes it better than none, and what passes that is the jurisdiction of a will-organization
Oct 11, 2026
CLAIM-175: A partner-dancing couple, while dancing, is one combined cognitive form on the extended-mind thesis's own terms, more clearly than Otto and his notebook, and merits a name of its own
Oct 11, 2026
CLAIM-176: Recurrence is the trigger of persistence this record is built around: coding a thing the second time it turns up captures exactly the drift that defeats an argument, and keeps capture from flooding the record
- design-rationale
- epistemology
Oct 11, 2026
CLAIM-177: In the record's exchanges with collaborators who keep no memory, the argument repeatedly loses identity: concepts are redefined silently, objections and readings come back as though new, and the thesis changes without anyone arguing for the change
- design-rationale
- epistemology
Oct 11, 2026
CLAIM-178: A manuscript should be a view over the argument and not its only copy: a draft written straight from an exchange drops commitments and changes its thesis without saying so, and both become visible only against a record where claims carry status and inclusion separately
- design-rationale
- epistemology
Oct 11, 2026
CLAIM-179: When an agent does the filing, the cost of capturing argument falls on the party that would otherwise pay to re-derive it, which removes the disparity that design-rationale systems were abandoned over
- design-rationale
Oct 11, 2026
CLAIM-180: Drift is retrieval failure outside a critical distance: a restatement close enough to an idea retrieves it, one that has drifted too far is taken for new, and a code bypasses retrieval by content altogether
- design-rationale
- epistemology
Oct 11, 2026
CLAIM-181: The record fixes the grammar an argument is expressed in, though not its shape: its closed vocabulary of schemes, roles and relations formalizes early, and a move that fits no CLAIM, TERM, ARG or declared relation is forced into one or lost until the misfit is noticed and the grammar amended to hold it
- design-rationale
- epistemology
Oct 11, 2026
CLAIM-182: Storage is not anchoring, addressability is: a structure that is kept but cannot be pointed at part by part does not stop re-derivation, and the same content becomes an anchor once its parts get addresses
- design-rationale

Oct 11, 2026
CLAIM-183: Generated views of the record, fed back into the exchange, become instruments of the argument: they show where its terms evolved faster than its formalism
- design-rationale
- epistemology
Oct 11, 2026
CLAIM-184: Anchors entrench: a structure that persists early can lock in its framing, so that later structure grows on it and alternatives become hard to reach, and retirement by status is the record's remedy only if superseded anchors stop attracting new structure
- design-rationale
- epistemology
Oct 11, 2026
CLAIM-185: The nucleation threshold of an argument is whatever makes a structure persist: a persistent structure is available as an anchor, and more complex structure can evolve only on anchors
- design-rationale
- epistemology
Oct 11, 2026
CLAIM-186: How fast an argument grows sets how it grows: drift tracks how fast new material arrives relative to how fast it is anchored, so a fast, prolific exchange branches, as a crystal grown far from equilibrium does, and a project memory stabilizes an argument by keeping anchoring up with arrival
- design-rationale
- epistemology
Oct 11, 2026
CLAIM-188: Where the model with a candidate structure is singular at the parameters that switch the candidate off, with real log canonical threshold λ below d/2 and multiplicity m, the reification rule's Gaussian Occam term overcharges keeping the candidate by (d/2 − λ) log n + (m − 1) log log n to leading order, so near the threshold the rule prunes candidates the Bayes factor keeps, and its derivation holds only where that model stays regular
- model-comparison
- individuation
Oct 11, 2026
CLAIM-189: Fidelity is the wrong measure of a developing argument: maturing drops and changes things legitimately, so what a record can secure is traceability, change that is announced and located, not preservation
- design-rationale
- epistemology
Oct 11, 2026
CLAIM-191: Restating an argument across memoryless sessions is iterated transport with only a weak channel back to the source: without anchors, restatements drift toward the collaborators' own framings rather than at random, and a code restores continuity of transmission
- design-rationale
- epistemology
Oct 11, 2026
CLAIM-195: For an argument, the constraint set that persistence is relative to is fixed by an amendable decision, not discovered: the record stipulates what counts as the same claim persisting, which makes the choice explicit without making it non-arbitrary
- design-rationale

Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-129: A factorization recovers only the structure visible in the relations it is fitted to, so a topic can survive a transformation that changes the communicative act, and a kind must be tested against probe families chosen for their bearing on the act
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-130: Telling an interpreter about a communicative situation, do(I = a), is a different intervention from changing the situation, do(S = s): only a do(S) intervenes on the relations that would constitute an act, and in a vignette or rating study every manipulation is a do(I)
- causality
- pragmatics

Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-132: Characters classify finite-dimensional representations of a finite or compact group up to isomorphism only over a field of characteristic zero; they forget the isomorphisms, fix neither the group nor a permutation action, and classify kinds, not tokens or positions
- mathematics

Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-133: Communicative identity is relational continuity under admissible transformation: translation transports relationally organized observational structure, correspondence fixes what can be compared, admissibility which transformations count, and fidelity which communicatively consequential distinctions remain recoverable
- philosophy-of-language
- translation
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-134: A non-eliminative structural realism that keeps relata but denies them any intrinsic identity-fixing feature is the position Chakravartty's dilemma targets, and granting numerical plurality without relational differentiation, as A194 and A198 do, concedes a non-relational ground of identity
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-135: Recovering latent structure from relational data is three achievements, reconstruction, identification up to stated ambiguities, and constitution of a communicative kind, and identifiability theory reaches the second at most
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-136: Communicative acts and their participants exist as relata but have no identity beyond what their relations differentiate: non-eliminative structural realism without primitive identity
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-137: A communicative kind is identified by an invariant that does not depend on any one realization, as a group character identifies a representation up to isomorphism, once one symmetry group is identified across the realizations by its action on the situation and not by labels of a medium, so that invariant has classificatory priority over any particular realization
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-138: The Newman objection is the collapse objection at the level of ontology, and the remedy offered for both, independently specified relations, concedes that relational structure alone does not fix communicative identity
- metaphysics
- philosophy-of-science
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-139: A communicative kind's identity is grounded in its relational organization rather than in any expression or encoding; statistical methods recover aspects of that organization from restricted observations, translation transports it, and fidelity is which independently identifiable, decision-relevant relational distinctions persist
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-140: The October thesis replaces what a receiver can reconstruct with what the analyst's probe system can identify as the test of what survives, and no turn argues the change
- philosophy-of-language
- information-theory
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-141: Causal-loop consistency and sheaf contextuality are both local-to-global problems, but passing to distributions affects them oppositely: a loop with no deterministic solution has a distributional fixed point, while a model with no global section in its supports has no global distribution either
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-142: Two communicative realizations can agree on every probe in a restricted family without being structurally identical, so observational equivalence is relative to the probes, and only independently justified probes evaluated on held-out cases are evidence that structure was preserved

CLAIM-143: Local descriptions that disagree are not thereby incompatible: whether there is an obstruction can be assessed only relative to a specified class of admissible correspondences between their observations, independently validated and not admitted because they remove the disagreement
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-144: Inertial observers who disagree about temporal order differ in coordinates, not in a failure to glue: only spacelike-separated events change order between frames, and frames are global charts related by a group action

CLAIM-148: A matrix factorization is identified only up to an invertible change of latent coordinates, which weight decay narrows to rotations and nonnegativity to rescalings and permutations plus a data-dependent remainder; such a gauge is not a symmetry of the relational system, and automorphisms of the data act on the factors only when the factorization is identifiable

CLAIM-151: Which communicative act an utterance performs is partly constituted by its relations to participant roles, norms and expected uptake, so a transformation that changes those relations can change the act and not only its realization
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-199: Blackwell's order bounds what a rendering makes possible for any receiver, and a given receiver's access is usable information relative to the rules it can apply, which a garbling can raise for that receiver but never above what the source makes possible
- information-theory
- philosophy-of-language
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-200: The procedure-level fidelity thesis's title says observational fidelity is not defined for a single rendering of a single item, which is more than it shows: one source–target pair does not identify the procedure-level score, and a single rendering can still be judged, as a sample of its procedure or by another measure stated as such, as its own body says

Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-201: Over a fixed scenario, a change of global compatibility at small local distortion needs contextual judgements, which the behavioural data read so far lack; the form of the headline those data leave open is a change of cover, in which a rendering makes some of the source's questions undecidable for its readers and decides others the source left open
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-202: What the line adds to functional and relevance-theoretic accounts of translation is measured structure beyond a static pragmatic profile: the context-indexed profile, its response to later framings and its decision relevance predict receivers' recovery beyond the similarity of static stance and footing ratings
Oct 10, 2026

Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-204: A communicative kind's identity is grounded in its relational organization, for which competent participants' uptake is the standard; statistical methods recover aspects of it from restricted observations; translation transports it; and what persists is what the receivers can still recover, of which the analyst can certify the independently identifiable part
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-206: If a communicative kind can outrun every probe, human same-kind judgements, themselves one probe family, can neither confirm nor defeat the October thesis; if it cannot, the kind does in the tests only what an observational class does, which the record's term for a kind says it is not
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-207: The transports of Propositions 1–2 and of D_obs act on judgement outcomes, not texts, and for any one source–target pair a constant kernel transports any overlap-consistent target, so they constrain a translation only once one kernel family is fixed across many utterances and derived from the text channel
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-208: The compositional predictions are upper bounds whose constants cannot be estimated from serial-reproduction data in a metric fixed beforehand, so the compositional half of the success criterion cannot fail
- probabilistic-modeling
- philosophy-of-science
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-209: Probes and statistical models recover only the distinctions identifiable from the relational evidence they are given, and a signature sufficient for a stated family of communicative decisions outside the observed probes can be identified when the full latent factorization is not
- mathematical-statistics
- philosophy-of-science
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-210: Sharing a kind and being a rendering are different relations: kind-sharing is symmetric and says what is to be preserved, while fidelity belongs to a transport from a given source, so an utterance of the same kind made independently of the source shares its kind and has no fidelity to it
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-211: Read as worded, the manuscript's thesis and the October thesis give rival answers to what survives, which come apart in both directions on the cases of the receiver objection, yet the record links them by complements and scopes the October thesis to a question its fidelity clause does not stay inside
- philosophy-of-language
- translation
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-212: Fidelity as a report and fidelity as a re-performance are different decision targets: Blackwell's order compares a rendering with its source as evidence about the source's situation, which both readers decide about, while a rendering that re-performs the act in the target's situation is compared only through a correspondence of situations
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-214: The distribution-over-situations criterion compares each language's own listener posterior, so it needs no correspondence of alternative sets; that a literal rendering can fail it is the criterion detecting a lost implicature, and a target language may admit no rendering that passes
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-215: Communicative kinds are repeatable organizations of relations among participants, norms, commitments and possible consequences, which concrete events realize without being one another, and which kind an event realizes is not exhausted by the intrinsic properties of the expression token
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-216: A thesis that conjoins relational constitution, statistical recovery, transport and receivers' recovery is defeated whole by any one of its empirical findings, though its clauses can hold or fail apart, so the line is better put as separate theses, each with its own defeat condition, resting on one another only where one is a premise of another
- philosophy-of-science

Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-217: For a communicative kind, the standard of sufficiency is the uptake of competent participants who know the standings and norms in play: a defeasible standard, overridden only where the act's other constituents diverge from the judges' verdicts, so a probe family is tested against it, and a kind outruns the families coarser than that standard and the judges only through those constituents
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-218: The task-paired risk difference the record uses in place of Blackwell's order, D_Q = sup_q |R_q(U) − R_τ(q)(V)|, is a different quantity: it reduces each risk set to one number, needs the losses of paired tasks on one scale, and its absolute value counts improvement as distortion
- mathematical-statistics
- information-theory
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-219: A change in the global compatibility of a fixed scenario is either a change in contextuality proper, which the behavioural data read show none of, or a change in overlap consistency, which is ordinary context dependence and moves by at most 2ε when each context moves by ε
- contextuality
- philosophy-of-language
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-220: For a named population of receivers and a stated family of tasks, what survives a translation, retelling or rendering is the set of task-relevant communicative distinctions those receivers can still recover from it, and measured preservation of the pragmatic observables predicts that recovery better than preservation of the wording or of the proposition, with or without its force
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-221: The relational-constitution thesis's defeat condition describes a standard rival the record holds no counter for, intention-based accounts of illocution, which plausibly meet it for every act in the four-speakers case except the institutional one
- philosophy-of-language
- pragmatics
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-222: No design in the programme includes an interlingual translation, and the defeat conditions are disjunctive, so English retellings and model chains could settle a thesis about what survives translation
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-223: Whether a distinction survived is fixed by what the receivers can recover, and whether it can be shown to have survived is fixed by what the analyst's probes can identify, so the manuscript's thesis and the October fidelity clause, read so, answer different parts of one question
- philosophy-of-language
- philosophy-of-science
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-224: Under partial relational constitution, a translation always changes the participants, audience and norms that the relational-constitution thesis makes constituents of the act, so whether the act survives turns on a correspondence of relations the structure cannot supply from inside
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-225: Blackwell's order measures what an ideal decision-maker could do, not what a given receiver can reconstruct, and the line's claims that a rendering can improve access describe garblings that real receivers do better with, which is the shape of the Blackwell thesis's own defeat condition
- information-theory
- philosophy-of-language
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-226: The defeat tests pool unnamed judges and treat their disagreement as noise, though the theory makes the act partly constituted by its audience; for historical sources there is no source audience at all, and for interlingual ones population differences are read as distortion
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-227: No validated measure of footing or stance exists in the record, and the one repeated assignment of footing, the analyst's own, changed between passes
- psychometrics
- pragmatics
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-228: D_obs restated over a rendering procedure, with one kernel family fitted on some source items and scored on held-out ones and the target term the readers' response averaged over the procedure's output, separates rendering procedures that receivers' task-indexed recovery separates, so restated it measures observational fidelity informatively
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-229: The footing, compensation and constitution theses ground on invented cases whose readings the assistant assigned, and the case filed for the proposition's non-necessity holds the words fixed, so it shows only insufficiency
- philosophy-of-language
- philosophy-of-science
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-230: Blackwell comparison needs the state each rendering is about, which natural texts do not supply, so a decision measure is fixed by whoever labels the state, and it orders translation procedures, not single renderings
- mathematical-statistics
- philosophy-of-science
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-231: On observed responses, a rendering that keeps the response distribution of each order of two framings within ε of the source's, under an outcome correspondence, keeps the observed order effect within 2ε, a bound identified from data, while the intertwining identity bounds it only through defects of an unidentified state model
- mathematics

- philosophy-of-science
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-233: The central theses' defeat conditions pit them only against embedding, propositional or surface similarity, and two rivals the record holds, functional equivalence as Nida states it and a proposition with its illocutionary force, also predict that judged pragmatic observables beat text similarity
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-234: The record's iterated-learning readings bear on lexical, structural and functional transmission, and none measures stance, footing or speech-act function along a chain
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-235: The line's proposed quantities have no finite-data estimators: plug-in signalling from one or a few occurrences per context is positive in expectation when the true marginals agree, so the contextual fraction is undefined on raw tables, and deficiency over text-valued renderings has no estimator
- mathematical-statistics
- contextuality
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-236: Under the rational-speech-act model the distribution-over-situations thesis grounds on, a form's interpretation depends on what else the speaker could have said, so matching source and target posteriors needs a correspondence of alternative sets that translation changes and no entry names
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-237: The first open problem of directed transport is not yet posed: a contextual model is a menu of incompatible experiments, and under the natural order on menus any state-independent classical simulation is dominated automatically, so what is open is only the converse or a deficiency bound
- mathematical-statistics
- contextuality
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-238: Many of the line's defeat conditions cannot in practice be met: the comparative ones are null results with no margin over an observable set the thesis may re-choose, and the possibility theses' are universal negatives that no finite study establishes
- philosophy-of-science
- mathematical-statistics
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-239: A defeat condition that says something cannot be done is met by an argument that it cannot, not by a record of failures, so the admissibility and correspondence theses can fail by their own conditions, though no study the programme runs can make them fail
- philosophy-of-science
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-240: A holistic fidelity judgement is fidelity under the judges' default task, a weighting of the profile's components that can be estimated on some renderings and tested on others, so it is well defined and consistent with task-relativity, and a defeat condition that uses it must name the population and fix the weighting before the test, and across populations with unequal access to the source must fit the weighting only on the components each can perceive
- psychometrics
- philosophy-of-language
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-241: Partial constitution by uptake makes competent participants' uptake a defeasible standard of a communicative kind, not the criterion: where the act's other constituents, such as its institutional conditions, diverge from how even informed participants take it, their verdicts can be wrong, and a standard must say whose competence counts, for which class of acts, and how divided verdicts are combined, which a majority does not
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-242: The use-level counterpart of Saussure's value is an utterance's contrast with the alternatives its speaker could have used in context; values do not cross between languages, which is why fidelity is graded transport through an anchored correspondence rather than identity of value
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-243: Read as description, the manuscript's thesis is close to true by definition; read as a criterion, it is a schema until the decision family Q is fixed, and its descriptive defeat condition can test neither reading
- philosophy-of-language
- philosophy-of-science
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-244: The defeat tests take one holistic, task-free judgement of fidelity as ground truth, though the line's own theses say fidelity is task-relative, interpreter-relative and not a single ranking
- philosophy-of-language
- psychometrics
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-245: Under Contextuality-by-Default, a deterministic context-wise recoding can make a noncontextual signalling source maximally contextual, or turn a contextual source into pure signalling, so per-content signalling is not monotone under such maps and the quantity to bound is joint overlap discrepancy
- contextuality
- mathematics
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-246: Sharing a kind is symmetric and blind to which work is the source, so the October thesis cannot say a translation is of its original, against the line's own directed, graded fidelity and identity through descent

- philosophy-of-science
- metaphysics
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-248: The founding stimuli (Villon, Henley's Villon, Hofstadter's Marot) and commentary on them are likely in language models' training data, and what a context does to one model need not be what it does to another, so a model's reading of their footing may be recall, and a directional match in one model may not hold in the next
- representation-learning
- philosophy-of-science
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-249: Comparing characters across realizations needs one group identified on both, which is fixed only up to automorphism, and automorphisms permute the irreducible characters, so "the same character" is relative to a chosen correspondence: the collapse problem again, at the level of the symmetry group
- mathematics
- individuation
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-252: The account does not say which distinctions a translation ought to keep: it says how to tell which ones a rendering kept for stated tasks and receivers, and what ought to be kept is set by the purpose the translation serves
- philosophy-of-language
- translation
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-253: The intertwining defects are defined on unobservable interpretive-state spaces, so they are not identified from judgement data, and the commutator identity bounds observed order effects only with a further, unstated readout-intertwining defect
- mathematics
- philosophy-of-science
Oct 10, 2026

- linguistics
- philosophy-of-language
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-256: D_obs sums over source contexts only, so a target context outside the image of τ appears in no term: a rendering that adds a relation pays nothing, and a change of cover registers only as loss
- mathematics
- philosophy-of-language
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-257: Observational distortion should be summed over the contexts both covers can host, with the target's new questions asked of the source too, and the questions only one side can decide reported as a separate change of cover, so that a rendering that adds a relation pays for it
- mathematics
- philosophy-of-language
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-258: Blackwell's order compares experiments about one parameter, so it does not reach the normal translation case: source and target readers decide about situations with changed coordinates, and where the state is common a translator with context knowledge yields a rendering that is not a garbling of the source, which the order typically leaves incomparable with it and about which the direction the manuscript uses is silent
Oct 10, 2026
CLAIM-259: For report fidelity, the decision term should be the positive part of the risk increase on the same decision problem, with losses in [0, 1] and a stated prior; so restated it is directed, counts no improvement as loss, and vanishes for every problem and prior exactly when the rendering is at least as informative as the source in Blackwell's order
- mathematical-statistics

Oct 10, 2026

Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-051: Fidelity is always fidelity with respect to some selected structure: a specified family of communicative observations, interventions and permitted continuations
- philosophy-of-language
- linguistics
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-052: Interpretive framing operations generally do not commute, and this can be investigated without committing to quantum probability
- philosophy-of-language
- probabilistic-modeling
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-053: The manuscript argues only that preserving the proposition is insufficient; that it is also unnecessary rests on an argument the exchange gave and the manuscript leaves out
- philosophy-of-language

Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-054: A translation can preserve interpretive content while failing as a social act: interpretive and performative fidelity come apart
- philosophy-of-language
- linguistics
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-055: The pragmatic identity of an utterance is partly constituted by the context-dependent transformations it induces, so pragmatic fidelity is an approximate structure-preserving correspondence between source and target dynamics
- philosophy-of-language
- linguistics
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-056: Local transport errors in a reconstruction chain are bounded by the per-step discrepancies weighted by the sensitivity of the later reconstructions, so the same local error can be damped, accumulated or amplified, and local similarity can coexist with large global drift; the bound measures departure from a reference transport, not whether the act survives
- mathematics
- probabilistic-modeling
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-058: Context-conditioned language models give a controlled computational setting in which the theory's frame, order and transport effects can be tested before human studies
- philosophy-of-language
- representation-learning
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-059: Repeated reconstruction chains fall into different regimes under conditions assigned in advance, contracting toward conventions, accumulating neutrally or amplifying, and amplification needs a metric other than total variation, an enlarged state or state-dependent dynamics
- complex-systems
- mathematics
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-061: Renderings that keep the proposition can perform a different communicative act, so preserving the proposition is not sufficient for preserving the communicative event
- philosophy-of-language
- linguistics
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-063: A transport that approximately intertwines each framing operation approximately preserves their commutator, so the degree to which interpretive perspectives interfere can itself be part of what a translation preserves; on observed responses that degree is the order effect, which the intertwining defects bound only with a readout defect added and which the data identify only through observational distortion
- mathematics
- philosophy-of-language
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-064: A translation reconstructs not only what is said but the situation of its saying
- philosophy-of-language
- linguistics
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-065: Pragmatic fidelity is approximate preservation of the ways an utterance conditions, transforms and constrains later interpretation and interaction, across transient framing and learned interpretive dispositions
- philosophy-of-language
- representation-learning
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-067: If a transport exactly intertwines a generating set of communicative operations, it preserves every trajectory composed from them
- mathematics
- philosophy-of-language
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-068: Repeated reconstruction is attraction toward conventional regions of communicative possibility: pragmatic stances, not only lexicon and grammar, can be stabilized by transmission
- philosophy-of-language
- cognition
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-070: Transport induced by one global stochastic kernel carries a global extension of the source model to a global extension of the target model
- mathematics
- contextuality
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-071: Conditional generation shares a mathematical vocabulary with translation, not a mechanism: denoising time is not telephone-game time, and a generative failure is not a proof of sheaf contextuality
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-073: Demonstrating that interpretive framings do not commute establishes that the judgements cannot be described by one ordinary joint probability distribution
- contextuality
- probabilistic-modeling
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-074: Fidelity is relative to the interpreter's learning history: what the current context supplies and what earlier experience has left in the interpreter are separate histories, told apart by what they carry and not by whether the change sits in activations or in weights, so fidelity under a fixed interpreter, across interpreters and across states of adaptation are different quantities
- philosophy-of-language
- representation-learning
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-076: Cross-modal chains expose reconstruction because media differ in expressive affordances, and each interpreter, such as a captioner, may add motives and relations that were not present
- compositionality
- philosophy-of-language
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-077: A transport is admissible only if it keeps specified observable distinctions apart, which excludes trivial collapse by construction
- mathematics
- philosophy-of-language
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-078: The theory succeeds if its observational and decision measures predict changes of communicative identity that text similarity misses and follow its compositional predictions across reconstructions; it needs neither quantum contextuality nor exact Noether laws
- philosophy-of-science
- philosophy-of-language
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-081: Retaining information about the ancestor and drifting in the population's distribution are different profiles: a chain can forget where it started while staying far from the original, so convergence is not preservation and transmission is not degradation
- information-theory
- philosophy-of-language
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-083: Pragmatic translation fidelity is the preservation, under corresponding communicative conditions, of the ways an utterance transforms interpretation, interpersonal alignment and the possibilities for subsequent interaction
- philosophy-of-language
- linguistics
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-084: Lexical similarity cannot distinguish preservation of communicative footing from a change of speech-act function, so the primary outcome of a reconstruction study is pragmatic-frame retention judged blind to condition, once a measure of footing and stance has been shown reliable
- philosophy-of-language
- linguistics
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-085: A framing effect in a language model is a property of that model under those prompts, and what a translation ought to preserve is a normative question that model response distributions, being descriptive, cannot settle
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-087: Cross-modal reconstruction often improves a receiver's access to an implicit communicative relation beyond the text-only baseline, as when posture or expression conveys solidarity better than the source text's literal content, though a rendering made without the situation is a garbling and cannot improve what an ideal receiver could do
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-088: Task-sensitive information preservation is established in semantic and goal-oriented communication; what is new is applying it to sheaf-structured pragmatic observations under sequential, context-dependent reconstruction
- information-theory
- philosophy-of-language
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-091: A translation can reach pragmatic equivalence by compensating for changed social coordinates with changed linguistic ones, so lexical infidelity can be required for pragmatic fidelity
- philosophy-of-language
- linguistics
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-092: Translation can be posed as a context-indexed information bottleneck: compress the source while preserving information about the responses in each measurement context separately
- information-theory
- philosophy-of-language
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-093: Not every invariance of a stochastic or communicative process implies a Noether conservation law: the symmetry principle can be borrowed, a conservation analogue has to be derived
- mathematics
- philosophy-of-language
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-095: Anticipated objections are better met by precise definitions, constructions and results than by hedges
- philosophy-of-science
- philosophy-of-language
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-098: Translation and cross-modal reconstruction need not be group actions: they form a category or semigroup of directed stochastic transformations, in which invertible symmetries are special cases
- mathematics
- philosophy-of-language
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-100: Sheaf-theoretic contextuality has to be extended to directed transport between observational scenarios whose covers change, and that extension is the theory's open mathematical problem
- contextuality
- mathematics
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-101: Translation is a context-conditioned transport process that preserves selected structures of communicative meaning to varying degrees while introducing distortions that may accumulate, attenuate or amplify under composition
- philosophy-of-language
- mathematics
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-102: Variations in translation are transformations between pragmatic frames of reference that preserve selected invariants of the communicative act
- philosophy-of-language
- linguistics
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-103: Symmetry is not opposed to transport: exact symmetries are the invertible core of a nested family of transports, and their main use is to supply the invariants against which non-symmetric transports are assessed
- mathematics
- philosophy-of-language
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-105: In documented reconstruction chains, steps that keep most local judgements commonly change their global compatibility: translation preserves local meanings while changing the global structure of meaning
- contextuality
- philosophy-of-language
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-106: Pragmatic fidelity is a graded, potentially asymmetric property of transport, not an equivalence relation; equivalence is its zero-distortion limit
- philosophy-of-language
- mathematics
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-108: Communicative identity is characterized by the observational structures and relations invariant or equivariant under specified classes of transformation, and fidelity by their preservation, deformation or loss
- philosophy-of-language
- mathematics
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-109: In translation the pragmatic frame does not merely select a description of meaning but participates in determining which meaning becomes actual
- contextuality
- philosophy-of-language
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-111: A text supports a distribution over possible communicative situations, and a translation can be faithful by preserving that distribution and its response to further evidence
- philosophy-of-language
- representation-learning
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-112: The operational account does not say that meaning is nothing but observable behaviour, nor that no stable content exists because interpretation is context-dependent
- philosophy-of-language
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-113: Transformations and invariants define one another: translation preserves some structures exactly, carries some equivariantly, preserves some approximately and reorganizes others, and identity is studied through what a class of transformations leaves invariant
- philosophy-of-language
- mathematics
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-114: Drift along a reconstruction chain can be marked by a pragmatic phase change, the first generation at which a different communicative configuration dominates, which per-step error in surface content does not show
- philosophy-of-language
- complex-systems
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-117: Pragmatic fidelity requires preserving the dynamics of interpretation, not only final judgements: a good transport approximately intertwines source and target framing operations under a correspondence anchored to independently measured distinctions
- philosophy-of-language
- mathematics
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-118: Context and interpreter are separate sources of interpretive change, told apart by what each carries and not by mechanism: what the current context supplies, whether held in activations or in weights updated on it and discarded after, is the signal; what earlier contexts have left in the interpreter and it carries into new ones is the interpreter; and improving the signal differs from improving the interpreter
- philosophy-of-language
- representation-learning
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-119: Communicative categories form a concept lattice rather than a hierarchy: categories such as affectionate teasing and sarcastic condemnation share attributes and differ in a few social-relational constraints
- philosophy-of-language
- mathematics
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-120: Conditional generative systems realize stochastic transports between constrained distributions, and their compositional fidelity depends on preserving the compatibility and relational structure of constraints across media

CLAIM-121: A transport whose local kernels commute with restriction maps overlap-consistent source models to overlap-consistent target models
- mathematics
- contextuality
Oct 08, 2026
CLAIM-124: Communicative objects are characterized through overlapping constraints on observables at partially ordered levels; translation transports these locally constrained structures, and repeated reconstruction changes both local interpretations and their global compatibility

CLAIM-024: Nothing here is new but a question: planning theory, control theory, executive control and institutional theory already study every mechanism the account names, and where the account has been set beside the expected value of control and Ainslie's interests it differs only in asking what governs how the driver changes rather than who drives, a question those mechanisms may answer without it
