The claim

The thesis was stated three times on 2026-10-10, each time on request.

  • A203 X (U56, 02:52, “layout the full argument from top to bottom for me”), after the new question (QUESTION-029): “Our answer is that identity is relationally grounded, characterizable through appropriate invariants, accessible through restricted observations, and preserved only selectively under stochastic transformation.” Its closing box ends: “Fidelity measures which structural distinctions remain recoverable, usable, and stable under admissible transport.”
  • A214’s thesis paragraph (U59, 03:19, “develop this further, then tie it all together”): “Factorization and other statistical methods recover candidate organizational kinds from restricted observations; identifiability theory specifies when such recovery is warranted. … Fidelity is the task-relative persistence of independently anchored relational distinctions, evaluated through observations, causal responses, and decisions.”
  • A218, opening the October proposal (U60, 03:26, “generate a new proposal and outline based on this new synthesis”): “Concrete objects and communicative acts exist as relata within structured systems, but their qualitative identities are grounded in their relational organization rather than intrinsic representational labels. Statistical methods can recover aspects of that organization from restricted observations. Translation, adaptation, and generation transport it across representations. Fidelity concerns which independently identifiable, decision-relevant relational distinctions persist through those transformations.”

The record files A218’s wording, which is the latest and the fullest. It has four clauses, and each rests on a separate premise:

  • Ontological. Identity is grounded in relational organization. This is partial constitution of the act by its relations to participants, norms and uptake (CLAIM-151).
  • Epistemic. Structure is accessible only through restricted observations, and agreement on a restricted probe family is not structural identity (CLAIM-142). A218 §5 separates five objects of inquiry: “Observed relational evidence. Latent explanatory representations. Statistically identifiable structure. Task-sufficient structural information. Philosophically proposed constitutive relations.” Identifiability reaches the third at most (CLAIM-135).
  • Transport. Translation transports the organization, by admissible maps that keep designated distinctions apart (CLAIM-077).
  • Fidelity. What persists is judged by decision relevance (CLAIM-050), measured as a profile (TERM-043).

The unit of identity is the communicative kind (TERM-040), which A218 uses throughout and never defines. A218 closes on the question this thesis answers: “How can a relationally constituted kind remain identifiable and useful when the representation through which we encounter it changes?”

How it differs from CLAIM-115 and from the v7 thesis

  • The question widened. CLAIM-115 answers QUESTION-002. A203 X declares that question superseded: “The final question is no longer simply what does a translation preserve?” Translation becomes one case of the identity and persistence of relationally organized things.
  • An ontology is placed above the fidelity clause. Neither CLAIM-115 nor the v7 thesis (CLAIM-133) makes a claim about what exists.
  • CLAIM-017’s invariants come back as classification. A203’s “characterizable through appropriate invariants” sits beside recoverability as the criterion. CLAIM-017’s body records that the move from invariants to the receiver “decides which of the two is the criterion, and nothing in the transcript argues it”. A203 assigns the two to different layers. That is a layering, not an argument for either.
  • The receiver is dropped at A218. A203 still has “recoverable, usable”, and v7 had “appropriately situated observers”. A218 has “independently identifiable” (CLAIM-140).
  • The fidelity clause is redefined in one sentence. A214’s “task-relative persistence of independently anchored relational distinctions” drops TERM-034’s communication constraint and its interpreter. No turn argues the change, and the record does not file the sentence as a TERM.
  • Contextuality is demoted by announcement. A218: “This replaces the earlier emphasis on contextuality as the organizing framework. Contextuality remains important, but it now occupies a specific role within a more coherent theory of observation and transport.” No reason is given beyond “more coherent”. The literary cases are gone from the outline (the workbench entry for U57–U60, 2026-10-10).

What it does not say

A218 §13: “This project does not claim that matrix factorization proves ontic structural realism.” The ontological clause “must be defended through argument concerning social acts”. It is not derived from the models. The exchange concedes the point that matters for credence (A214 §13): “A traditional ontology of intrinsically individuated objects plus relational properties might reproduce the same statistical predictions.” So the empirical programme tests the epistemic, transport and fidelity clauses, not the ontological one. Identification is not constitution (CLAIM-150).

It is filed for communicative kinds. A203’s preamble, A214 and A218 say “objects” in general, but A203 §35’s own ontological thesis is scoped to “Communicative acts and other structured phenomena”, and nothing in the exchange argues the general version.

It keeps “partly”. A214 wavers between “partly constituted” (§14) and “relationally constituted” without qualification (its thesis paragraph). Only the partial reading is the premise this entry rests on.

Note of 2026-10-29: three concessions

On the fidelity clause this thesis and CLAIM-115 give opposite verdicts on CLAIM-140’s two cases, so they answer the same part of QUESTION-002 and compete (CLAIM-211). The clause takes the analyst’s identifiability in place of the receiver, and nothing in the exchange argues the change (CLAIM-140). The record’s reading that keeps both, recovery for survival and identifiability for certification, is CLAIM-223’s, and CLAIM-204 states the thesis that way. Both are proposals. This entry keeps A218’s words, and its defeat condition is now bound to a margin, a power and observables fixed before the data (CLAIM-238), with transfer tested between languages (CLAIM-222).

Note of 2026-10-29: what holds it back

Four of its five premises are Proposed: CLAIM-151, CLAIM-142, CLAIM-135 and CLAIM-077. CASE-055 has not been run, and CLAIM-206 and CLAIM-216 have no Active counter. Whether CLAIM-204 supersedes it is an owner ruling open since 2026-10-10.

Note of 2026-10-29: superseded

Superseded by CLAIM-204, the restatement the record filed on 2026-10-10. The chain reads CLAIM-133, then this entry, then CLAIM-204. The objections filed against this entry stay pointed at it. CLAIM-216, that one conjunctive thesis is defeated whole, already objects to CLAIM-204 too, and still bites it.
