The claim

ADR-032 drew the lesson from the will exchange: “What went wrong was identity, not missing structure.” In that exchange, “will” was redefined five or more times. One worked case changed identity six times. The permissiveness objection was re-derived six or more times, and readings the record already held were recommended three times.

The translation exchange shows the same pattern, and it was found without looking for it.

  • The passive/active distinction (CLAIM-004) “kept being re-derived after the manuscript dropped it”. The ordinary-control objection (CLAIM-024) was re-derived three times, with different criteria each time.
  • The thesis changed four times, and the first two changes were never announced. CLAIM-017 became CLAIM-115, and then CLAIM-133, without a turn arguing either move. Only at A203 was the change of question stated (CLAIM-139).
  • When the owner asked what to file (U48), the assistant offered “three genuinely new connections”. Only one of them, TV Tropes, was new to the record. The proposed Yoneda THEORY duplicated THEORY-032, and the relativity analogy had been rejected as ARG-004 (workbench 2026/10/10/040456).

None of these is a missing premise. In each case something already said lost its identity between turns.

What it does not say

  • It does not say structure is never missing. In the final will manuscript, 7 of about 30 claims had more than one independent line of support.
  • It does not blame the assistant. A collaborator with no memory between sessions, or whose context has been compacted, can only re-derive. The owner reintroduced the relativity analogy after it had been rejected (ARG-004).
  • Two exchanges, both owner with chat assistant, are a pattern, not a measurement.

Note of 2026-10-12: a filed instance on the translation line

PR #121 filed a further instance of this claim’s third failure, a change of thesis that no one argues. CLAIM-247, granted and Active, finds that “The bearer of communicative identity reversed”, from an operational object defined on observed responses to a kind that can outrun observation, “and no turn argues the change”. CLAIM-211, also granted, is a related finding: the manuscript’s thesis and the October thesis give rival answers, yet the record links them by complements. Both are readings of the What Survives Translation? exchange, this claim’s second source. CLAIM-217 later supplied an argument for the reversal CLAIM-247 records.

Note of 2026-10-27: narrowed and promoted

The status review of this date (ADR-057) narrowed this claim to what the record observed, and promoted it. Version 1 also said that such an argument fails at identity rather than at structure, in general. That comparison was counted in one exchange, with one owner and one assistant family, which this entry’s own body called “a pattern, not a measurement”. It is now CLAIM-483, Proposed, with version 1’s defeater.

The observation has been made again since it was filed, in exchanges this claim did not cite:

  • In the exchange of 2026-10-17, A12 rebuilt the will essay without citing it (CLAIM-027’s note of 2026-10-18). CLAIM-122 was re-derived three times without being cited.
  • In the exchange of 2026-10-20, neither reply cited CLAIM-025, or the THEORY-145 that grounded it, while restating both (CLAIM-025’s note of 2026-10-21).
  • Notes on CLAIM-086, CLAIM-150, CLAIM-277 and CLAIM-329 record the same thing for the exchanges of 2026-10-13 and later.

Six exchanges, one owner and one assistant family. The title says that and no more.
