Explanation statuses — Whether the record believes the ACCOUNT, which is not what the same word means on a practice. An explanation can be Rejected while the thing it explained goes on working exactly as well as it ever did (ADR-031).
Disbelieved — tested and failed, or contradicted by later work — and the thing it explained may still work perfectly well.

| CLAIM-010 | On this account every control system has a will | The permissiveness objection. Raised by the assistant at A112, and re-derived at least six times afterwards as though new. Answered by agent-indexing (CLAIM-080, CLAIM-116); one code is what makes the recurrences one objection. | Rejected |
| CLAIM-020 | A translation’s quality is the number of formal and semantic constraints it preserves | Hofstadter’s starting criterion, as A4 reports it, and the Pareto- frontier picture of fidelity around it. Refuted in the same reply by the mother’s translation. | Rejected |
| CLAIM-073 | Demonstrating that interpretive framings do not commute establishes that the judgements cannot be described by one ordinary joint probability distribution | The owner at U13, answering A24. Granted for projective measurements, refuted for operations by a classical counterexample (A30) that the owner never contested, so Rejected; what replaced it is pragmatic noncommutativity, which the manuscript keeps. | Rejected — by CLAIM-052 |
| CLAIM-089 v2 | Northstar simply prefers speed: the governing relations are revealed preferences of the organization, not a separate organization of efficacy | The redescription objection (Sections 1, 3.5). The paper answers the individual-attitude version; the aggregate revealed-preference version is still open, so this counter stays Proposed. | Rejected |
| CLAIM-110 | Brooks’s architecture, Kelso’s coordination dynamics and Levin’s bioelectric selves are three different ways of understanding what an organized whole is | The assistant’s framing at A8: three accounts of distributed agency as three rival pictures of the whole. Rejected after the owner’s objection at U7, which the assistant conceded at A10. | Rejected |
| CLAIM-173 v3 | The threshold criterion measures coupling strength, and coupling is not constitution: a metronome driving a musician, or a nerve driving a muscle, forms a strongly coupled block that clears the threshold without being one system | The record’s anticipated objection to CLAIM-157, and Adams & Aizawa’s coupling-constitution objection (LIT-455) aimed at the new criterion. Near-decomposability is about the size of couplings, not their direction. One-way drive can make a tightly coupled block. The entrainment claim excluded exactly this case. Rejected on the owner’s challenge (CLAIM-167): they should pass, and direction gives a system’s architecture, not its membership. | Rejected |
| CLAIM-236 v2 | Under the rational-speech-act model the distribution-over-situations thesis grounds on, a form’s interpretation depends on what else the speaker could have said, so matching source and target posteriors needs a correspondence of alternative sets that translation changes and no entry names | Found in the record’s audit of the line on 2026-10-10 (empirical lens); no turn of the exchange raises it. CLAIM-111 makes a translation faithful when the target’s posterior over communicative situations matches the source’s, and its worked model, THEORY-172, makes that posterior depend on the set of alternative utterances. A translation replaces the source language’s alternatives with the target’s, so a rendering with the same literal content can carry a different posterior. Granted, because it follows from the model as the record states it. It does not say the model is wrong or CLAIM-111 false. | Rejected |
| CLAIM-246 v2 | Sharing a kind is symmetric and blind to which work is the source, so the October thesis cannot say a translation is of its original, against the line’s own directed, graded fidelity and identity through descent | Found in the record’s audit of the line on 2026-10-10 (structure lens); no turn of the exchange raises it. CLAIM-137 makes realizations one act by a shared invariant, “not resemblance to an original”, and CLAIM-139’s defeat condition tests judgements of shared kind. Sharing a kind is symmetric and says nothing of descent, so an utterance made independently of the source, of the same kind, scores as a translation does. The line’s own theses make fidelity directed and graded (CLAIM-106) and identity partly a matter of transmission (CLAIM-002). The objection is open; it does not say descent must be part of fidelity, only that the kind criterion cannot state it. | Rejected |
| CLAIM-473 | Coupling locally described systems necessarily induces a separation of time scales between their collective behaviour and their relative behaviour | The owner’s, the second half of U20 of the exchange of 2026-10-27: “coupling inertial frames necessarily induces scale separation (way less confident about this one than the former assertion)”. Filed as said, with “inertial frames” read as the local descriptions of CLAIM-471. Rejected on filing: the necessity is refuted by conservatively coupled oscillators (CLAIM-481), which A20, A21 and A23 all gave. The owner’s doubt was well placed; what survives is a condition, and the condition is the interesting part. | Rejected |
| CLAIM-489 v2 | A sign’s communicative significance is fixed by its contrasts within a system rather than by correspondence to a referent | CLAIM-082’s version 1 title, kept as its own Proposed entry when the sixth status review narrowed CLAIM-082 to what Saussure’s value supports (ADR-047’s third ruling). It carries the two parts the reading does not: that significance in use is fixed this way, and that contrast works instead of reference rather than alongside it. | Rejected |
