Definition

A38 §2.3 restored the tuple f = (S, A, K, N, G): speaker position, audience, common ground, operative norms, genre. A frame “must be more than an analyst’s interpretive label”, and changing “the description of an utterance” differs from changing “the communicative situation”. A39 §3.1 folded the utterance and the interaction history in, c = (u, s, a, k, n, g, h), and §3.2 defined “a pragmatic frame as a configuration of relevant social and interpretive conditions”. It extends A24’s measurement context (TERM-031) with norms and history, and is no longer an index on judgements only.

What it is not

Not an act on a reader: that is a framing intervention (TERM-018). A39: “A friend speaking is a property of a communicative situation.”
