Definition

A18: a pragmatic frame “supplies an interpretive and expressive coordinate system within which that act is realized”, written f = (S, A, K, N, G): speaker position, audience, common ground, norms, genre. It is “not just the speaker’s privately selected perspective. It involves publicly recognizable conventions”, on the model of an operational reference frame in physics. A fixed communicative act U = (p, F, σ, ρ, C) is realized in a frame as u_f = R_f(U), “a proposed analytical model, not an established mathematical formalism”.

Unlike the earlier changes, this one was announced.

Why it was replaced

It presupposes the frame-independent act that QUESTION-021 asks about. A24 dropped the act (“we may have been searching for the wrong kind of invariant”) and made the frame a measurement context (TERM-031). A30 made it an operation that changes the state later frames act on, “a significant departure from our earlier relativistic analogy” (TERM-026). The analogy it served is ARG-004.
