Argument forms — The form of inference an ARG makes, and with it the critical questions that inference has to survive (Walton’s argumentation schemes). An ARG answers each question in its body or is objected to (ADR-032).
Analogy — what holds of one case holds of another alike in the relevant respect. Critical questions: in what respect are they alike, and is that the respect the conclusion needs? What relevant difference is there? What transfers, and what does not?.

| ARG-002 | Interpretive framings change a reader’s state as non-commuting measurements do, so the frame participates in determining which meaning becomes actual | U10: “feels like our conversation is headed towards quantum cognition”. A21 read framings as projectors on an interpretive state and concluded that translation actualizes latent meaning. Undercut at A24, A27 and A30: context sensitivity and order effects have classical models. | Rejected |
| ARG-003 v2 | In the Dual State ordinary norms governed conduct while a prerogative order held authority over whether they bound, so a constraint can govern conduct without governing its own authority | The historical line of support for CLAIM-086 (Section 5.6). Undercut except in its structural respect (CLAIM-032). | Active |
| ARG-004 | Relativistic frames vary descriptions systematically under constrained transformations with invariants, so variations in translation are transformations between pragmatic frames preserving selected invariants | U9 asked to connect the frame idea with “the precision of ‘relativistic frame’ qua physics”. A18 built the analogy and undercut it in the same reply: translation operations are not invertible and do not compose. Only its research-programme respect survived. | Rejected |
| ARG-008 v2 | A language model’s response to its context is functionally a parameterized frame, so context-conditioned models give a controlled setting in which to test the theory | The owner’s U17 analogy, which A43 enlarged into “the primary formal example”. Undercut by the assistant in its own outlines: a prompt is not a social situation, model behaviour need not match human inference, and judging with the generating model measures only its preferences. | Active |
| ARG-010 | Causality paradoxes in relativity show that locally consistent descriptions can lack a global realization, so local interpretations need not be fragments of one global interpretation | The owner’s inference, made twice and declined twice: at U46 from the paradoxes of closed timelike curves, at U47 from “who crossed the meeting point first?”. A161 and A164 refused it. Filed because two claims undercut it, and because the relativity analogy has now returned, through the owner, after ARG-004. | Rejected |
| ARG-016 | Valuations that do not cross, read through coordination dynamics, make flow a synchronization of interests | CLAIM-162 calls flow intrapersonal synchronization: on CLAIM-169’s account of interests, an activity whose immediate and longer-run rewards coincide has no crossing curves, so nothing is overridden (THEORY-070). The word comes from coordination dynamics (THEORY-069), where synchronization has a coupling, an order parameter and transitions. Valuations that fail to cross have none of these, so the analogy carries the word and not the mechanism. Open, because candidate parts are named and none is measured. | Proposed |
| ARG-038 | A character’s classificatory sufficiency shows that relations constitute what a communicative act is | The owner’s character analogy: a communicative kind is identified by an invariant, as a group character identifies a representation (CLAIM-137). At its strongest that gives classificatory priority, not constitution. A198 §VI: “It would be a mistake to infer the third automatically from the first two.” CLAIM-150 undercuts it. | Rejected |
| ARG-040 v2 | In use, an utterance is interpreted by its contrast with the alternatives its speaker could have used, so what a translation must let a receiver reconstruct is those contrasts, not the wording or the proposition | A second line to CLAIM-115, independent of Saussure, filed at the owner’s direction from ARG-033’s note that CLAIM-242 “could be the premise of a second line”. It starts from contrast in use, the rational-speech-act premise (THEORY-172) and Bergen, Goodman and Levy’s finding (LIT-809), not from value in the language system. Proposed: the reference games and the alternatives they model are much narrower than translation. | Proposed |
| ARG-045 | Simondon’s account of individuation as crystallization from a metastable state, propagating from kin to kin, supports the thesis that an argument’s later structure can evolve only on structure that persists | From the connections pass of 2026-10-31 (CLAIM-185’s note of that date). Simondon makes the growth of a crystal in a metastable solution the model of all individuation, which is the shape of CLAIM-185’s anchoring thesis. Rejected as support: the same structure, not shown to be the same mechanism; Simondon generalizes by analogy as CLAIM-185 does, and his book is unread here. | Rejected |
| ARG-051 | Mind-wandering, read as Metzinger reads it, is an individual-scale case in which a capacity the agent keeps, veto over its own mental processes, loses and regains efficacy through a change in a condition of efficacy and not in the competing processes, so it is a further instance of the conditions of efficacy governing which regime acts, the first in the record for suspension in one mind | Filed 2026-11-01 on reading Metzinger 2013, 2015 and 2017. The analogy holds in structure: second-order mental control is kept through an episode of mind-wandering (on the 2015 “moderate” reading) and is not effective, and its return is put down to a change in its representation, not in the competing thoughts. It would give CLAIM-027 an individual-scale instance of suspension, which ARG-005 says the record lacks. Proposed, because the two questions that decide it are unanswered: the mechanism is not shown to be the same, and Metzinger’s own account of an episode’s onset makes a goal state, not a relation, its cause. The interventions that would answer both are his H1 and H3, untested. | Proposed |
